i'm thinking about converting to be a presby from a baptist. my new bride is an upstanding member of mppc and i would like my child to have some solid religion in her life. i'm trying to reconcile the differences in my mind. the biggest thing for is the pagentry involved in the formal denomonations. i'm more a spiritual guy. jesus don't care what i wear to church, if you know what i mean. the biggest thing for me will be having to acknowledge the catholic chuch in some form or another. i am a true protestant.

i'd love to hear any and all thoughts and opinions on this.

Speaking as a deacon from First Pres in HP, I think you should read some of the upper links on this page, Who We Are from the Presbyterian Church USA. Yes, Presbyterians do have a "service of pagentry" to some degree but not nearly as much as some others. I would also think that MPPC might have an early service as we do which is less formal/contemporary too. You mention your daughter's exposure to religion. Many Presbyterian churches begin additional youth programs in the 4th-5th grades.

I don't get the catholic church statement, unless you mean the Apostles Creed? All Christian religions "stem" from the Catholic church don't they?
I was raised in a protestant background. Used to think the sun rose and set on it. Now I realize Jesus doesn't care. Long as you have the basics down right.

whatever it is, they indeed acknowledge the catholic church as being superior in some way. i'm not down with that.

    I never caught that.
But then there are different presby churchs right, like USA is different from United or whatever?

The apostles creed was developed before the protestant reformation. They still say it. That is the only place they acknoledge the Catholic church and that just says they believe in it, not acknowledge it as superior.

the creed states in the belief that catholic church is holy. right along side the holy spirit. i cannot reconcile this. i honestly hate saying things i do not believe. then i again i do not like any form of chanting and usually do not participate in that.

I think we have to acknowledge and respect the catholic church, without it protestants wouldn't be here.
