the nfl channel isn't just games. it's football talk all week. almost every coach (if not all) have a weekly spot. as well as players. they go to all the training camps and spend a whole 3 hour show at each training camp. they play nfl total access at night so you can at least listen to some of the programming that you can't watch if you have cable. and you don't have to listen to am radio if you are driving somewhere and listening to panthers games.

    stern is just a bonus.

I'd rather listen to Hockey talk than Nascar anyday.

I think way more people care about hockey than you think. Not having the Canes or even the Checkers broadcast on their station, there is no reason for them to talk about it on a semi-regular basis until the playoffs hit. It would be cool for perhaps Chris McClain to go up to Raleigh for some playoff games**

**Hey, you gotta talk/promote something between the end of NCAA Hoops season and the start of Panthers training camp in July!!!!!!!

    uhhh...not really.

The sport hasn't lost all big television contracts for no reason. Like I said before, it's irrelevant. Now I'm not trying to dismiss hockey as a good game or the league in general, I'm just saying that on a national scale, no one cares.

It can't compete with the following as far as popularity and/or ratings:

    NFL
    MLB
    Nascar
    College Football
    College Basketball
    PGA
    probably MMA
    hell....probably Poker

i don't have the numbers in front of me...but I'd like to see how the World Series of Poker ratings compare to the Stanley Cup final ratings.....if there are anywhere near close....then hockey can officially be defined as lame

It lost major TV contracts due to their lockout season.

But I guess NBC doesn't count as a major network nowadays, right?

    Again, QFT.

SDS...do you think ANYONE would listen to the Checkers on the radio? Sure, it's a fun thing to go see them live...but I'd bet 9/10 of the crowd can't even name any players.
