It's funny how many people bought into "next year". Even my father said a couple weeks ago, "why not just play the young guys from here out?"
I think Gantt wrote about this, but it's true, who aren't we playing?

the only ones not playing are on IR, or really haven't much of a future as a starter anyway. The only ones I can think of are STers only, and FA signed only as stop gap depth (because of IR) who won't be here next year anyway.

How many drafted rooks do we have who not playing now- and not due to injury? Or FA we brought in who have any shot at being here next spring?

Wow. 3 of the teams we're competing with have either rookies starting (Giants, Zona) and Chicago just annointed Chad 'the crooner' Hutchinson.

DAllas, Tampa, New Orleans, and St. Louis seem to be our obstacles.

If Julius Jones keeps it up, Dallas could be strong.

Eli starting for the Giants might've fucked up one of my fantasy teams, but it could help us, yes. I think STL has some fight in them down the stretch, but I can't see the Bears and the other NFCS teams being in the fight in 3 weeks.

We can certainly help push them off the cliff.

With have to beat tampa and NO to get there anyway, putting them out if we win.

    St. Louis(5-6):
    49ers
    @ Panthers
    @ Cardinals
    Eagles
    Jets

St Louis loses at least 2, if we beat them. We'd have the tiebreaker then anyway. Assuming they don't win their div. (8-8)

    Hawks:
    Dallas
    at Minnesota
    at NY Jets
    Arizona
    Atlanta

They win 3. (9-7) win div.

    Dallas(4-7):
    @ Seattle Seahawks
    NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
    @ Philadelphia Eagles
    WASHINGTON REDSKINS
    @ NY Giants

Dallas loses at least 2. (7-9)

It's possible we could go 8-8 and get in Only if we beat St. Louis and they lose their div, or if they lose, the hawks go 7-9(unlikely).

The other teams won't go 8-8 Not listed above.

I don't know that Seattle wins 3. I can see them losing to Dallas, Minn, Atl, and the Jets.

    Nuts. That'd make them 7-9.

Dallas with a running game could cause folks some problems. And Tuna is a good coach......

Recent power poll makes me wonder . . .

. . . does everyone here REALLY want our current roster of guys in the playoffs when they will either have to play at PHI or ATL???

Take a look at the most recent ranking below. Although I think the Titans should be at #19 right in front of us I think this is probably a pretty accurate power poll for a change -

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking

If we did make the playoffs at 8-8 it looks like there could easily be 5 AFC teams with equal or better records watching the playoffs at home. I would hate to see our guys take a humiliating beating at the hands of a hated rival like philly or especially asslanta in front of millions. Most of the sports world already feels justified in saying the Panthers were a fluke and are not an elite team. Just think of the negative press and smack from rival fans we would have to put up with.
With a healthy Davis and Jenkins back in the mix right now I would feel COMPLETELY different about the possibility of post season but with the skeleton crew we’ve got left the Homer in me is comatose.

BTW - Then there's the reality that we could go 8-8 and still not pick in the ’05 draft until #21. Though I'm sure most of you would hate to miss the top twenty I’m fine with picking later. From what I've gathered so far it may be the type of draft that has a less spectacular "more even" talent pool in the first round.

Only way to find out if you can beat them is to play them.

    We're due against ATL.
