Yeah I saw that already, holy crap @ black levels

I helped my dad tune his 58 inch 1080p panasonic plasma this weekend and my hd-dvds looked so amazing on it. It's a shame his satellite looked so poor, I didn't want to bum him out so I didn't say anything. I was kind of shocked that TWC looked so much better.

My buddy has a 50" 768p samsung plasma and directv, I assumed that my model was just superior to his but apparently it's more to do with the cable I'd imagine. My dad's tv should have looked better than mine with everything, not just the hd-dvds and x360.

Just think, in 2012 or 2013 that might actually sell for $1500.

It's really not all that far off.

This is a pic of a demo they did in a pitch black room (because you can only see plasma in a pitch black basement lol)

Actually, the reason they did this demo, is at first the press only saw the tv on the left. That's this year's Kuro, it set the bar for black levels among all flat screens. A TV can only display as black a screen as exists when it's powered on.

Both TVs were on, and you could see the old kuro. Here's the picture when both started playing fireworks:

What other than a completely dark closed environment (which you wouldn't bother watching on TV) is that black?

A real sky full of fireworks certainly isn't completely black.

I am much more impressed by that cell-phone width screen. That is some kinda engineering feat right there.

Looks like they've crushed the setup level to superblack or 0 IRE. Base level is 7.5 IRE.

They invented some sort of buzzword called "Infinite Contrast."

I don't think it's some sort of filter or anything that would degrade the image.

HH, the width is nice, almost mind-boggling. But I could care less about the width of a tv, personally.

I care about it. Most wall mounts plus TVs stick out too far for my taste. Seen a lot of people use recesses and angles/side obstructions to overcome it. That thing's gonna hang like a flat framed picture. It'll feel like looking out a window. Badass.
