hehe, Well, hopefully then we don't have to go 3 deep this year. I confident Weinke can start all 17 or 18 games this season:D

I can't think of a team that doesn't go at least 3 deep at QB.

we didn't, from Collins' quitting until the last couple of games of 1999.

Add this to Moose's profile. He is a willing and effective blocker for other receivers downfield. He was for Jeffers in 99.

I hope some of you are right about Weinke. I do know he has the composure to get the job done. I hope he heals.

Well guys, I must be one of those "casual" fans that you refer to.

I’m going to take exception to the statements that “not until a far inferior receivers coach and a different quarterback come along did drops ever become a problem” and “In 2001, yeah, he had a bad year. Lots of drops on catches he should have made, and he knows it. Which is why the "casual fan" thinks Moose=drops. Short memories.”

I distinctly remember Moose’s first couple of years were Major disappointments to me because he kept dropping balls. I remember this well because I was so excited when they drafted him and then hugely disappointed. I don’t have the tapes to go back to “prove” my memory but you’ll never convince me otherwise no matter what stats you throw in my face.

The only year I remember him having a good year (in not dropping passes) was in 1999 after Seifert arrived. Not only did he stop dropping passes but, strangely, Beuerlein also quit coughing up the ball and even started running on occasion. I remember thinking that the new coaches were miracle workers as I had personally given up on both of these players. Even then, they didn’t belong in the pro-bowl – just shows how deceiving stats can be. And then just as strangely, I think both of these players reverted to the form I had grown to despise prior to 1999. I know Beuerlein did and am thinking Moose did also, but my memory is foggy on this issue. In 2001, Moose did not have a “bad year” he had a Horrible year.

And if it weren’t bad enough that he drops balls, he has also been a troublemaker. I think he helped to rip the heart out of this team with the Collins issue and followed that up with all his “me” and “decoy” talk. And then on top of everything else, he quit on the team last year. I don’t care how talented the guy is (though, I’ll take exception with this talk). If he is going to cause trouble, be selfish and be quitter, then I’d rather take my chances on a A. Bright. I’d also rather take my chances on a young man like R. Anderson that got mixed-up with drugs (course, I came close to doing drugs myself last season) than I had on a quitter. And I believe strongly that you can’t win consistently with a receiver that continually drops balls as they are too often drive killers and game losers. Quitter, troublemaker and ball-dropper. Great combination.

Bye the way Sandman, I always thought (casual observation) that one of Moose’s positive qualities was his effort and ability to gain yards after he does catch a ball. It’s not game breaking, but it does move the chains.

Meat says that Moose has looked like our best receiver in practice. I’ll reserve judgement until we’re well into the season. As proved by the talk of Gilbert (after we had traded for him) and Lewis, the performances in and the talk coming out of camp can often be very misleading in how a player will perform when the bullets start flying (and if the loses start piling up).

He had rookie struggles, less so the next year.

Good to know we are dealing with someone who won't be bothered by silly things like facts.

    Beuerlein running??????????

    >>I know Beuerlein did and am thinking Moose did also, but my memory is foggy on this issue.

I bet. Stay off the drugs boys and girls. Causes you to forget things like leading the NFL in receptions.

    >>I think he helped to rip the heart out of this team with the Collins issue

Yeah, poor Kerry. Should have just ignored Collins like I do drunkin bums. Did you say something about quitting?

Muhsin had injury concerns in 96 and parts of 97. he's proven to be able to play through pain, but to a small amount of detriment to his game. I imagine in his first two years there was far less of a stress to make him stay on the field, and therefore less production.
Similar situation last year - injury, plus a team low on focus - hell I can give you any excuses/reasons you want. You don't want any, though. Me, I'll take the slightly troubled and potentially game breaking receiver over the flunkie drug user who didn't show up for half the games he played in, but that's just me.
