Piper's draft mock draft

Assumptions: Roy Williams stays true to his word and stays in. McGahee, just a feeling, he comes out for top 5 money. Manning, as is the vogue, comes out. Just my guess on those.

1.BUNGLES: Carson Palmer QB 6-4, 220 Southern Cal

Cinci could trade down, but its too early to start projecting that. You've got to really want someone to trade up. EVERYONE likes trading down. Moreso this year, IMO. Which means less will want to trade up.

2.DETROIT: Charles Rogers WR 6-4, 210 Michigan State

Most complete player, at a need, and he is local.

3.HOUSTON Jimmy Kennedy DT 6-5, 335 Penn State

They could use a real nose, and JK is an impact player here.

    4.CHICAGO: Byron Leftwich QB 6-6, 240 Marshall

Guessing that the foot injury will still be considered minor, and Chi-town makes the pick.

    5.DALLAS:. Willis McGahee RB 6-1, 220 Miami

    Meet the new boss, Emmitt.

6.ARIZONA: Terrell Suggs DE 6-4, 255 Arizona State

Local, at a position of need. Dominant pass rusher, tops in draft, and lord knows they need it.

    7.MINNESOTA: Vince Wilfork DT 6-2, 345 Miami

More upside than teammate Joseph, a can't pass up pick here.

    8.CAROLINA: Eli Manning QB 6-4, 210 Mississippi

This is a toughy. It's him or Andre Johnson. I'd be happy with either, but since both will probably take a year to develop, and Manning is a Manning, and that will draw intrest, we make this pick.

    9.J-VILLE: Andre Johnson WR 6-2, 220 Miami

Someone to pair with the aging J-Smooth. If we take Andre, I’m guessing Coughlin goes with Manning here.

    10.SEATTLE: William Joseph DT 6-5, 300 Miami

Seattle needs a defensive line presence.

11.ST. LOUIS: Jordan Gross OT 6-6, 310 Utah

Let the rebuilding begin. They need at least one tackle, and that's if they resign Pace, which they won’t. Tackle is their biggest need,

    12.WASHINGTON: Jerome McDougle DE 6-4, 265 Miami

Another relentless pass rusher, this one with bulk.

    13.BALTIMORE: Brandon Lloyd WR 6-2, 180 Illinois

    Needs some speed on offense.

14.PATS (FROM BUFFALO): Larry Johnson RB 6-2, 222 Penn State

LJ is good value here, gives Brady a real chance at balance.

15.SAN DIEGO: George Foster OT 6-7, 325 Georgia

A small reach, but they need a Tackle to protect Brees. I’m thinking Foster moves up come draft day.

16.CLEVELAND: Terence Newman CB 5-11, 175 Kansas State

Good cover guy with speed can give some special teams play.

17.NY GIANTS: Dewayne Robertson DT 6-3, 315 Kentucky

Scouts are taking notice of this guy, falls to a good place for the Giants as the best available.

18.KANSAS CITY: Michael Haynes DE 6-3, 280 Penn State

A pass rush would help KC secondary bunches.

    19.NEW ENGLAND: E.J. Henderson LB 6-2, 240 Maryland

Time to start replacing this aging LB corps with some youth.

    20.DENVER: DeWayne White DE 6-3, 270 Louisville

Again, no pass rush for Denver, equals bad defense
    21.INDY: Boss Bailey LB 6-3, 220 Georgia

Dungy gets his Brooks like playmaker.

    22. NY JETS Dennis Weathersby CB 6-1, 205 Oregon State

Shores up a thin area for the Jets.

23.NEW ORLEANS: Gerald Hayes LB 6-3, 245 Pittsburgh

A powerful run stuffer on for a run porous defense.

24.NEW ORLEANS (FROM MIAMI): Mike Doss SS 5-11, 200 Ohio State

Gives some secondary help for the Saints.

    25.PITT: Dave Ragone QB 6-4, 245 Louisville

    To groom behind Maddox.

26.ATLANTA: Rashaun Woods WR 6-2, 190 Oklahoma State
Vick needs someone to throw to.

    27.SANFRAN - Ty Warren DT 6-4, 305 Texas A&M

Can play DE or DT, good replacement for Stubblefield. Very strong player.

28.OAKLAND (FROM TB): Lee Suggs RB 6-0, 205 Virginia Tech

The Raiders will part with a lot of aging salary, likely Garner is gone, so Suggs is the heir.

    29.GREEN BAY: Andre Woolfolk, 6-1, 175, Oklahoma

Best back 7 defensive player available. Even if it’s just as a nickel, it will help GB.

    30.OAKLAND: Cory Redding DE 6-5, 265 Texas

Defensive line will likely get cut up for the Raiders.

    31.TENN: Vince Manuwai OG 6-2, 295 Hawaii

Eddie George would look a lot better with some better blocking.

32.PHILLY: Bryant Johnson WR 6-2, 210 Penn State

The rich get richer in Philly. This team is young and good, and under the cap. This is their third year going to the playoffs, and my SB pick . Could be a mini-dynasty in the making.

All but a few make very good sense to me and seem probable. I think Zona lets Plummer walk and takes Manning (or Ragone if Eli stays in school). I think SD would take Harris or Williams before Foster, but you might be right. I would hate the Falcons even more if they got Woods. He is one of my favs and I’m hoping WE get him. I really think he is going to be special and second only to Rogers in productivity from this class. I am hoping we beat the Aints and the Jags Hawks and Rams all pick ahead of us. We would be out of the top 10 money then and we stand a better chance of getting Woods.)

My current favorites along with Woods:

    Brad Banks
    Jason Witten
    Casey Moore
    Sammy Davis
    Terrell Suggs

I agree that Arizona or Dallas takes Manning. I think Ragone has played his way out of the first. In fact, I'll be surprised if he goes before the third. I don't see Banks before late second either.
The more I look at it, the more I see us going OL - either Jordan Gross or Kwami Harris - in the first. Depending on what we do in free agency, I can see us going with Chris Simms or Kyle Boller in the second.
In any case, it'll be another interesting off season.

WOW... assuming you picked correctly is it POSSIBLE Witten could fall to us in the second round???

I'd much rather see us go RB in the first round if none of the 3 elite QB's are available; either McGahee or Johnson. OL is a better pick in the later rounds (or a seasoned guy in FA).

Well yes, I could definately get behind Johnson if he's there. I'm a little concerned about McGahee's size. I disagree about going OL late. We need starters (plural) on the OL. Maybe we get one in free agency - Maybe. But I think we go OL first day if not first round.

Wasn't that the knock on Portis last year? He seems to be doing fairly well.

Tough to say. Witten is in my top 25, but value didn't meet need in the bottom half of my draft. It'd be hard for him to fall past Houston, Dallas, Detroit, and all the other teams top of the second.

Kwami Harris? Not familar with him.

Foster is just a guess, based on greater upside than Williams.
