I don't know why, but I STILL have not tried pintos with cornbread. I've only eaten pinto's as refried beans. But the weather is right so this is the time. Should I just buy a can and put chopped onions on top. Or do I need to get a bag and make a batch from scratch?

i agree with aj, take the dried beans, rinse them and soak them over night in the same pot that you'll cook them in. cover the beans with about an inch of water, they'll soak most of it up. (throw in some side meat, fat back or ham hocks for seasoning). The next morning add more water covering them about another inch or so, cook them on low heat so they will simmer all day. crock pots work well if you're afraid of burning down yer house while yer away. you may want to add some salt but that will be up to you.
