Copied? Similarities, but I didn't see Fishman doing an extended drum solo last night. Their music tends to sound more like Zappa. There's a lot of humor mixed in with some serious ass jams. There's a hundred bands who do 2 set nights and jam. Phish is just the best of those.

Atlanta's parking sucks. Nobody was directing traffic. I had to pay 10 bucks to park in someone's yard.

good show, though Charlotte's set looks a bit better.

you proved my point. the dead invented this style of play. bfd, there was not a drum solo. i still like phish, and they have taken this style to new level.

Oh I agree that they were the first to do this, with the culture and all.

But they have their own spin, like you said. So did the Allmans, so does Leftover Salmon. I just would not call it “copied”, because I wouldn’t say Metallica copied Black Sabbath.

Show was good but I absolutely hate stinkin wookie kids. Trey is by no means the best guitar player in the universe.

No two jam bands are really alike at all. Even if they were the same style, the idea is that the personalities of the musicians' styles make the music more than words or chords.

Just like saying DMB is like the Dead, or that they're like Phish. They've gotten away from any sort of experimental production, though, and some might even say that they're just filling time with solos. Depends on what you're getting out of your music, I guess. The expressiveness of some jam music is unparalelled.

i have the misfortune to be the fourth person in a group of three phish fans. when it first started it was nothing but phish. it's like a freakin cult or something. some of their stuff is okay and even borders on good, but some of it just plain stupid.

when the grateful dead, well, died, phish was ready to take their fans and keep the train moving. trey's solo stuff sounds pretty much like phish, as does much of oysterhead, tho the les claypool stuff sounds, of course, like primus.

funny, now that i think about it, sausage sounds like primus as well. interesting that the two of them would get together. sorta like a battle of musical shackles.
