    i guess maybe i'm a movie snob...

saw bridge on the river kwai the other day. cool movie, if a little cheesy at times. guess it's the era it came from, tho. anyway, i was amazed at how much "day for night" they did. hell, i don't think any of it was shot at night, even tho a good portion is supposed to take place after dark. crappy day for night has always bothered me. you can add all the crickets chirping you want, but hard shadows and toplit clouds in the sky (however dark you make it) tell me it's day time no matter what kind of filter you shot with.

deliverance has some of the worst day for night shooting i've ever seen. when the one guy is climbing the cliff and you look up into the sky... they had to do some weird processing to the film to make the sky darker without making everything else too dark. it looks really strange.

oh, and please, don't put a graded gel infront of the lens and tell me the atmosphere is colored at the top of the screen, or that there's a thick layer of smoke. if you do, make sure not to move the camera too much cuz it pretty much ruins the effect.

    yep... snob.

Thanks. You've taken away my last probable semblance of a chance of enjoying, albeit already mostly crappy, movies. Now I'll start noticing and looking for the day/night and filtering stuff. This should come in handy in my life long endeavor of becoming the complete pessimist. :xyzthumbs

I can't stand these modern movie trailers, especially the ones that flash images by you so fast you can't tell what you're looking at. The rocket scientist who thinks this makes the movie look exciting should be enrolled in retard school.

hey, that's better than the ones that are like mini-features. i swear i've already seen the movie "closer" and it hasn't come out. of course, it's got natalie portman as a go-go dancer of some variety, so you can bet i'll catch it at some point.

The thing that's really driving me nuts is the handycam combined with caffeine overdose footage I'm seeing. I couldn't even watch The Bourne Supremacy because of it. Lethal Weapon was almost ruined for me because of the horrible footage of Mel Gibson's fight scene with Gary Busey.

yeah, all ww2 movies are trying to emulate the private ryan beach landing scene. all shaky with high film speed so everything is ultra-crisp. makes for a serious headache if over-used.

Way better than old trailers, that used to show you EVERYTHING that happens in the movie. I've seen trailers from the 60s through the early 90s and almost all of them showed you everything that happens in the movie. Even the ending.
