Panthers | Peppers Contract Update - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
8:40 PT: The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers DE Julius Peppers will likely land a seven-year contract worth approximately $35 million. Serious negotiations have not begun, though Peppers hopes to have the deal signed by training camp at the end of July.

What did Last year's #2 get?

I don't know a lot about player contracts, but this article shows Leonard Davis, last year's number 2 pick(Arizona) got over $10 million last year. (If I'm reading it right)

Yeah, but they're including his signing bonus.

Davis' salary was only $209k, the rookie minimum, but his bonuses were over $10 million.

Spread that signing bonus over the term of the deal (probably 5 years), and escalate the salary in later years, and that's how thew cap gets affected.

    So from this article:

    Salary Cap

It shows that we only have about $1 million under the cap, the only team with less than us being the Jets. I am assuming that is a bad thing, but since I don't know much about the cap, how will that affect our ability (if it will) to sign Peppers?

I'm trying to figure out the salary cap thing. I'm studying on it.

Yeah, we'll need to cut and maybe restructure some folks.

It'll be interesting to see what they do.

I think I might get cut. Not because of my playing ability, but just because I'm black.

Big Mark, I've warned you about playing with those guys that carry knives.

Where's Johnny Cochran when you need him?

Fascinating !! N0w I KNOW why teams don't know where they stand ! Itdoeslook like THIS YEAR we have finally gotten a handle on it. Come trainingcamp cuts we should be o.K. for next year.

An Old Coot that says: C'mon Panthers....do your stuff !!
