"The Carolina Panthers have made sure the John Fox Era does not begin without the biggest weapon they got for him this offseason. Team sources told SportsLine.com that North Carolina's Julius Peppers agreed to a deal with the Panthers on Monday, ensuring that the No. 2 pick in the draft will be with the team when it opens camp on Friday."

"The multiyear deal includes $13 million in bonus money. The draft's first pick, QB David Carr, was given a seven-year deal worth about $60 million including $11 million in guaranteed bonus money by the expansion Texans."

No word yet on the total value.

I hope it's a long term deal (6 years +) to spread that HUGE signing bonus out

I hate to bitch, but I’m going to. I thought big guaranteed bonus money was what we were going to avoid at all costs from now on. THIRTEEN MILLION definitely ups the anti on what will be expected of him and the majority will be expecting him to start earning all that cash in a hurry. Peppers can thank his oily agent for the added big time pressure. I was really expecting them to go no higher than 10 over 7 years. Sounds like Hurney and company caved. Oh well, Here we go!
He’ll be in camp and that’s the most important thing for now . . . right?

historically, defensive players tend to get more bonus money first round and less salary/less incentives. Offensive players get the more creative situations with easy to reach incentives and escalating pay scales.

$13 mil over 7 years is the most we've ever given out in bonus, I believe. Still, that's $1.8 mil a year, not horribly insurmountable and basically what I expected - well, tell the truth today I posted at another site a guess of 7y, $11.5 mil bonus, so I was off. They did what they had to do to get the deal done I guess, but wow...

I don't expect Peppers' contract to be worth $50 mil though, and Carr would get $60.

University area. At the time I was listening, I was actually right around Harris/Tryon. It was a good day.

Funniest thing though. back in my Junior year (?) we were in the first round of the NCAAs and I could get FNZ in Marion as I was on my way from Brevard that day!

Did I miss where someone said guaranteed 13 mil? Wasn't it Carr that got the assurance?

This whole deal looks like someone in charge who knows what they are doing. A bunch of players who are hopefulls at minimum and then the most important player under contract. Now on down the line.

Things always seem easy when whoever is in charge knows what in the hell they are doing.

Fasani has proven nothing and although he is needed at 3rd QB he has very little bargaining power.

Foster does have a bargaining position however. He is a top talent.

Maybe they're trying to do so - but if they are, they're foolish. They're on the back burner, getting Foster in camp will be imperative especially since he was finishing school in minicamp.

Fasani is nowhere near as complete a product as Weinke was - he isn't in contention for a starting role - and he's not as mature as Weinke physically nor mentally. The idea of giving him incentives is great, but he doesn't deserve them anymore than anyone else. There won't be any other fifth round draftees getting incentives, so I don't see this being all that possible for Fasani either.
