Tank Johnson doesn't really play the run. He's only in that defense because they're one-gap (I believe), where other guys they have could go two-gap and may be asked to do so at times.

the two #1's is the price tag for another team signing him only, you get what you can for trading a Franchise player. I just don't want us to get into a pissing contest like the Vikings and Seahawks did with Hutchinson and Burleson.

Neither one of them was a franchise player.

Franchising him is a mistake. That means we gonna get stuck with him and he is going to have another 2007...for $17mil. Nobody's going to give up 2 1s for him, regardless of what Colon whines about.

The 2 #1s is mandatory as compensation for another team signing him if we make him a franchise player.

If we volunarily trade him, it would go like this. We'd have to sign him 1st, so he would have to cooperate with the trade. Then we trade him for whatever the 2 teams agree on. It can be anything.

I think his point was that no team is going to do that for him. I tend to agree.

And if we franchise him, we really are rolling the dice that some team is going to step up and trade for him, knowing we already don't have the cap room to pay him the 17mil.

What is the NFL penalty for having players with legal contracts that exceed the salary cap in a given year? The league does not have the power to dissolve legal contracts, do they? (not that the franchise tag is necessarily a legal contract).
