I agree...I think his value with the rest of the league isn't what we perceive it to be. How many teams are salivating to have him? How many would have paid him 16mil a season?

Our problem is we make stupid decisions and then try to fix them on the backend and more than likely just dig our hole deeper.

Why would any team offer anything for Peppers ?

    Once he's a F/A

It becomes a bidding war and where Peppers wants to be .

So why over pay now. Peppers may not approve the trade .

Peppers may already have an under the table deal worked out and it may not be all $$

He won't be an FA unless the team allows it, so interested parties might have to trade.

It means a lot when you are the guy writing the check for $20 million. If JR is not extending Fox because he wants to save money in the event of a 2011 lockout year then he is not going to want to throw crazy money at Peppers, cap or no cap.

That is what I think too. I don't think his street value is near what the transition tag would pay him and if it is, then we always have the option to match/beat it.

yeah, that's losing Peppers, plus not signing more than you lose, and waiting until 2011 to get said 3rd rounder.

attempting to be optimistic . . . let's say there IS a team who wants to be the early bird and acquire peppers before be ends up with some other lucky lucky team . . . at what date can he (and his wonderful agent) be approached by said team? Assuming that the panthers do slap some sort of tag on the peppers.

THEN . .. what are some of you other optimistic minded folk expecting that an interested team would trade for him? Let's put it this way . . . what compensation would YOU be alright with?

At this point I'd be thrilled with a high to mid 2nd in 2010 and some sort of conditional pick in 2011.

. .. and a case of Sam Adams
