to be honest, I think the whole thing is overblown. Peppers makes an open, generic statement followed by his agent making things worse as normal.

But, at least this year, compared to last, they're not making a bunch of demands that would end up hindering him from being able to leave.

it's kind of like the silence he gave the team when they attempted to sign him during his fab 2 and half sack season a while back.

before the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing begins in earnest, does anyone want him at 20+ million? was he worth 16+ million? will 14 or 15 million magically make it a sweeter deal? getting something back for him would be great, but it doesn't always work that way...titans got zip for fat albert last year. that's not so much running him down, but we have better things to spend that money on with this team.

I'm not that interested in him for 1 year, 20 mil or letting him walk, but I'd be OK with a Haynesworth deal or a trade.
One worry with us letting him go is that we wouldn't really spend much outside of him. We haven't spent much in two years outside our own guys. If it got a top NT in, that'd be kinda neat, but otherwise I'm also not that expectant the money would buy us out of problems. QB? Never anyone worth a damn. WR? We're not going to go spend on the type guy that'd actually be an improvement over Moose, like Bryant. And we wouldn't throw to a guy like that enough to make it worth it. So then what?

Especially if it's uncapped. Then it just doesn't matter.

I mean, you have more chance of re-signing Davis, Kalil, Beason then, but I think we would try to make that happen anyway. We've always found room.

At the Pro Bowl practices he is asked and he standard response is I don't know. Do you want to play in Carolina, "Ha Ha I don't know" It's obvious he still wants to go else where. If the Panthers haven't made him a offer this off season then the ball is in their court. Make him an offer and let him counter. Give him a week and then move on or sign him.

i'm not sure all the money in the world is going to solve the qb question. honestly it's a poor year to have money to spend in some ways. the idea of the usual suspects of suspect qbs, harrington, kitna etc, coming here doesn't thrill me. and that is my big concern for the team as far as needs go. somehow i don't see the draft helping that. why look for the qb of tomorrow when the future of fox is, as of now, undetermined? so, no tebow i'm guessing. sarcasm.

there are some wr, and not named owens, that might be worth a look. that doesn't mean we will utilize them though.

and yes, dt would be good. or if he is gone, de would be a spot to consider, although what we have after peppers already has shown potential.

so while the shopping doesn't look great, i'm no more inclined to just dump that money on him when we do have other needs. if they work out a deal...great. if they trade...might be even better. i don't know that i care if he walks...

I have a feeling they're simply gonna try to spend as little as possible heading into 2011.

I think you might be right on that. I hope that does not stop them from locking up Davis.

I am not sure we have to add much in free agency to be good next year anyway. Even with Peppers gone we have some DEs who can play. Moore looked like a solid starter to me when he played. We can draft a WR who can play right away. None of our DTs are great but between the lot of them we should get something serviceble.

The only issue I have with letting him walk is that we fucked ourselves with delhomme.

Peppers walking sucks, keeping delhomme for $12 million sucks, having both happen is unbearable.
