I hope we don't model ourselves after the Eagles. Too much dependency on one player.

Very much so. There are basically four guys who'll go top 15 - two of them will likely go top 5. Rogers of Michigan State will go #1 unless somebody really needs a QB.

McNabb's great. But while I personally liked McNabb, who was to say who was going to be the best of the three? The easiest way to typify the whole thing is to say that McNabb had the best coach and the best system. The Bengals and Browns had no such luxury. DO we? Based on preseason QB play I'd say that we were doing very well. Now we're deliberate, we can't put any points on the board at all, and I don't know if a play-making QB would be able to make things happen in this offense - if it were allowed to happen, it would take on the flavor of that quarterback, which also means the offense's tendencies are the quarterback's tendencies.

And I don't think I want someone's entire scouting report to read something like "flushed out, he rolls right often. Plenty of cover two backside help, crash C often or rotate over and crash corner/SS. Tends to break down fast."

Somewhat, but just like with what the Falcons are doing, it's part because they haven't established a feature back. If Staley alone were getting the ground work done, it would be a terribly different story, and was back when he was.
If Donovan had a Dillon to hand off to, he'd be much more powerful.

Hopefully we can draft around 20 or so. Cap figures for top 10 are painful

I've never really cared where the first round pick lands, as far as hoping for this or that. If it's a top ten, I'll take it. Morgan's contract for Morgan's production is fucking badass. Getting the fourth best receiver of the group would rock. I'll pay a guy for that.

On the other hand, if we're going for a tackle or something else pedestrian, to hell with that anyway. There are very few offensive tackles truly worth their first round status and the ones that are for the most part have to be hyped to no end.

Quarterback would tend to fit in that idea, that a 2nd will probably end up being better than a first if it's a later first. And God knows we'll have to give him every fucking incentive in the world because we tend to do that to any quarterback who comes in lately.
