    From ESPN.com

MIAMI -- Pedro Martinez has enjoyed every pitch and every second he has spent in the majors, but he's already planning his retirement as an active player, possibly when his current contract with the New York Mets runs out after the 2008 season.

"I've sacrificed my life, my good years, to baseball. I want to go home while I still have the energy to spend time with my family," Martinez told ESPNdeportes.com. Work is good and it dignifies men, but I want to enjoy the fruits of my efforts. I plan to enjoy a nice retirement and a healthy life after baseball.

He sounds like Latrell Spreewell here. "How will I feed my family on that offer?"

How do you sacrifice your life and family on 10+ million a year. Someone tell these self absorbed asshats to get someone to write a fucking speech for them. You chose your profession knowing the away time and you were HIGHLY COMPENSATED for it. Grow the fuck up

Don't have a problem with the comment really. He didn't say he was underpaid.

He's made a ton of money and should be set for life financially unless he gets screwed over. He will have to live with pain in his shoulder for the rest of his life, from what I understand of his injuries.

Athletes get paid what the market will bear. If a 10,000 other Pedros out there, he'd get paid less.

It's the sacrifice comment that riffles me. Pat Tillman sacrificed. Pedro and Latrine Mewell haven't sacrificed shit

He has sacrificed. Health and time. We all sacrifice something for our jobs. If you get paid for a hobby with no demands, kudos.

I think you are reading way too much into the comment. And you have income envy.

I've used the term but not when it comes to a money making venture. He chose to take the job hence no sacrifice. He was well paid for his decision. Salary envy? Maybe but sacrifice implies he gave up something better for less. He has been well paid for his decision.
