Is at camp today - I'm interested in what he has to say. Anybody know what time espn.com usually prints that stuff?

    2 comments I found fun:

Smith averaged 20.6 yards per catch in two seasons at Utah and averaged a touchdown every 6.5 receptions. The Panthers don't need numbers quite that gaudy. They do need Smith to keep secondaries honest, to make the occasional big catch, and to keep opponents from consistently double-teaming Muhammad.

I've never heard Smith's stats in college. Those numbers give me wood.

The knock on Grant is that he has never been a very physical player, and he's going to have to step up in that regard to retain his job, especially for this coaching staff. If he doesn't Fox could move Minter to free safety, a position he has played in the past, and insert solid hitter Damien Richardson into the lineup at strong safety. "(Grant) is a huge factor for us," Fox said. "He's got to get (more physical) for us. He's not there yet but he's improved." Bottom line is that a Carolina secondary that statistically ranked No. 28 in the NFL in 2001, and which surrendered 25 touchdown passes, is still an area of concern.

I knew he had a knock for not being a hitter, but I'd seen no indication that Richardson was closing in on his job.

I think he had 35 receptions that year.

I don't honestly put much credence into Richardson there. He's not a free, he's got 4.65 speed, he's a slow SS playing free. I honestly believe they're talking about Grant's tackling, and I'm not terribly concerned about that since no one tackled well. I'd hate to think we'd throw away a top five cover free safety because of impatience for a guy's tackling.

Looking at the statement again - I wonder if it could be taken in a different context:

"(Grant) is a huge factor for us," meaning he's the shit and we're thrilled to have him.

but - as always he could improve:

"He's got to get (more physical) for us. He's not there yet but he's improved."

Ahhhh - the season of unbridled optimism.

yeah, I missed that part. I also didn't read, the first time, where they said Richardson would be at SS and Minter would move. I've been on the phone all day in addition to getting into an email battle with some guys who feel that Smith is the answer at receiver - in other words, we don't need to look at receiver at all next year. So I'm occupied.
I'm just now reading the pasq reports.

    >>One notable shortcoming, obvious even in the Wednesday drills, is that Peppers still must learn to use his hands better.

I noted this in one of my evaluations. Good leverage, needs to contact the offensive player better. That's why occasionally he struggled against a guy like Simmons against Auburn, who's really just an inline type guy.

I think it's funny that they call strength and conditiong coach Jerry Simmons a "standout".

He stood out when he kicked that door in. I'd been trying a good four or five times.

I must've loosened it up for him.:)
