Parcells and why not to hire him

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by Tiorted Snoil, Dec 31, 2002.

  1. He quit as head coach at Air Force after one year, was hired as an assistant for the Patriots and quit before the season started and stayed out of football for a year.

After winning the Super Bowl with the Giants in 1986, he tried to leave for Atlanta and the league blocked it. After winning a second one in 1990, he waited until May 15 and quit. He said his health wasn’t a reason. Now he says it was.

In 1992 he accepted the Tampa Bay job and then pulled out, leaving owner Hugh Culverhouse ready for a news conference with no coach. He then tried to change his mind again and Culverhouse said no thanks.

In New England, he signed a five-year contract with a penalty clause if he didn’t stay all five years. After three years, when Robert Kraft took over as owner, Parcells asked for the final year and the penalty to be voided because he wanted to coach only one more year. Kraft agreed, but included a clause that he couldn’t coach anywhere else for that final year. Parcells then left for the Jets and New York eventually had to give up four draft picks. Last year he flirted with Tampa Bay, left the owners in a fix again, then said he’d never coach again.

He just wants another paycheck for a year or two....good luck cowboys.

he'd have a stronger case considering he was looking to make the Jets a winner and then stay as GM - he didn't stay as GM, Bellichick got out, and Groh left a year later. In addition to Parcells/Bellichick and Groh as a DC, as well as Charlie Weis as OC and Romeo Crennel (now the Pats' DC) as DL coach. Pretty sweet. And it all fell right to shit. So any idea of Parcells building a Dallas winner and it staying together after he leaves in two years is unlikely.

I saw somthing like this the other day on one of the sports sites (ESPN maybe?). In short, the dude leaves a train wreck behind him wherever he goes. Sort of like Lou Holtz.

It was also reported on ESPN that Bill had a signed contract with Tampa last year and the Bucs will expect compensation from any team that hires him. Good luck getting those picks you spent on Gruden back Tampa....

  4. the bucs never sent the contract to the league office...therefore it may as well not even exist.

Damn. I wanted to see a good fight over it.

  7. no, I didn't want him and most of the fans realized that he's a train wreck waiting to wreck another train.
