Panthers V Eagles Game day thread

This is our worst ever team.




Not in record, but in watchability and overall likeableness. Between Roman Harper, the Fat Bastard GM, the horror show offensive line, the one-hit-wonder head coach, the Greg Hardy fiasco, the terrible defense, and the bombardment of Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly commercials, this is by far my least favorite version of the Carolina Panthers ever. Which is pretty shocking, since last year's version was probably my second favorite version ever. Things change fast in the NFL.

Complete failure at all levels of the organization.
Just not a competitive team

 

The only thing last year and this year has taught me is that the first two weeks of the season are COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS. It's the new preseason. From now on I'm not watching a game until week 3.

 

I'm not even going to bother doing a full recap of this game. Everyone saw that it's the same old shit over and over.


One thing I have to mention though: We seem to be rotating running backs just for the sake of rotating running backs. Stewart is the better player and deserves to be getting most of the carries. DeAngelo (who I love as a person) is no longer an effective player, and he's hurting the team by trying to make plays that he can no longer make.


We do it at other positions like safety. Colin Jones will come in, make a couple of decent plays, then we'll throw Harper back out there. This isn't little league. Play the better players. That wouldn't change the outcome of the games very much since most of our roster sucks anyway, but it's still pretty frustrating.

 

You know what, I do have more to say.




- The offensive line. Oh my god, the offensive line. They're constantly getting PANCAKED. IT'S CARTOONISH. Jesus FUUUUCKING Christ. I wish the the BoA stadium operator would start playing Looney Tunes sound effects whenever we give up a sack. It's beyond tragic. It's hilarious to watch.










- Olsen once again is being heavily recruited to serve as a pass blocker. Great. Good coach. Don't let somebody else do that, just keep using your only good receiver as a blocker.


- Fuck Kelvin Benjamin. His route running is just as shitty as his hands. His volume of production is an indictment on Shula and Cam. That should be Olsen getting those targets. I know Art agrees with me.




- Fuck Roman Harper. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK Roman Harper. I hate you more than I even realized I could.




- Why is Charles Johnson covering wide receivers? You know what, fuck McDermott too. I realize you got to try just about everything when you're strapped with the worst secondary of all time, but really?




- Can Chip Kelly succeed in the NFL?




- Mario Addison isn't the worst pass rusher in the world, if you make him part of a rotation, but holy shit he is an ATRICIOUS run defender. He got destroyed by a wide receiver on Sproles touchdown run. And then Roman Harper appeared disinteresting in cleaning up the play. Fuck you, Roman Harper.




- I think we all jumped the gun on Richard Rodgers. We still need a real special teams coach.




- Cotchery sucks so much dick you'd think he was a woman trying to get promoted. Dude had a knack for not getting open. He's the Velcro Man.




- Fuck fuck, shit, fuck fuck.

 

Thoughts from an eagles fan

Don't think many on this board realize just how badly Hurney set back this team in one atrocious offseason of terrible contracts.

This offseason should be a bloodletting to end the mess he left. Anyone over 30 should be cut unless their contracts have an easy out after next year. As much shit as gettlemen has gotten this year, I think he understood that this offseason.

Cam has regressed, but with THAT oline, how could he not? David Carr might have been given a better chance. That he was in the game past the second half of the third quarter on a clearly gimpy leg was Rivera's idiocy.

Though things look terrible, there is a young core here to build on, but a two year plan needs to be in place. If cam wants huge $, might have to let him walk, but Shula is a really really shitty coordinator. Not enough screens, too many 5-7 step drops, and pure shite at the rb position, despite a ludicrous amount of money. Again, Hurney.

The rest of the divisions future might be as bad or worse. I don't think it turns around next year, but with really shrewd moves, this team could be dangerous in two years. A backup plan at qb has to be part of next years draft.

 

Yeah, expect he didn't do any bloodletting. He cut Steve Smith, which was mindless fucking dogcrap that should have been prolonged at least until after this season.

The offensive line was terrible, but Cam was pretty bad on his own. Two of his picks were Grossman bad. I like Cam, he's a good player, but giving him the contract that it would take to keep him around would set us back a decade. If you must, franchise him and make him earn it in 2015. Then make a decision. I just don't think he's ever going to be worth the 20+ million/year it would take to secure him. Not to mention he's already been beat to hell more than any other QB.

Not at all. The Panthers are the 6th oldest team in the NFL. It's not Oakland, but it's a crappy situation, and based on Gettleman's drafting prowess there's no reason to believe it will get any better.




Who are the "core" young players? Kuechly, Cam, and??? Benjamin is too inconsistent to be considered a foundation player. So basically it's Kuechly and Cam. A core of two, that's encouraging.

 

There aren't that many people here, so I think I can safely say we did realize how badly Hurney fucked things up.

Gentleman got lucky with a couple of players signed on the cheap who contributed to a winning season and got extremely arrogant. He may or may not have set us back long term, but he damn sure made the Panthers a laughing stock in short order.

 

Speaking of the oline there was one play in the second half... would love to find a gif of it but anyway... Cam under center gets snap. It's playaction so he turns and take a couple of steps back to the RB and fakes the handoff. As he starts to turn he gets fucking demolished. He's still looking at the opposite fucking goalposts and he gets killed.

But I bet somewhere there was some dumb ass Panther fan screaming " Get rid of the ball Cam!!!!" and probably still pissed this morning that Cam was hanging onto the ball too long.
