Not that this really surprises us...

Panthers | Clearing Space - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
9:37 PT: The Gaston Gazette's Steve Reed reports the Carolina Panthers must clear some cap space to sign their remaining rookies. GM Marty Hurney said the team likely will have to restructure some contracts and admits there’s a possibility the team may cut some players. No names were mentioned, but players that could be candidates for either method are: DE Jay Williams, OT Melvin Tuten, LB Hannibal Navies, DT Brentson Buckner and S Damien Richardson.

Tuten and Richardson are more than likely toast. I can almost see Navies given his injuries and impending FA.

    Don't forget Patrick Jeffers.

  6. I thought the NFL set every team's rookie salary cap pool when then they announced what the team cap was for this year....and teams are already supposed to be in compliance with that cap number....

    1. yes, it is.
    2. no, they don't.

  8. what date was it that they had to be in compliance with the cap? it was long time ago. After that point, if they signed someone for over the cap, they had to immediately make adjustments (cut players, etc) to be in compliance with the cap. In certain situations there is a two week roster exemption but nothing the panthers have done would qualify a player for that.

You had to be in compliance with the overall cap starting with the 2002 football year on March 1.

They're in compliance with the rookie cap because they haven't signed them all yet.

We had to be im complaince with the overall cap at the end of February. That's different.

The "rookie" cap is a limit on the first year cap figures for our rookie contracts. That's assigned by the order and number of your draft picks.

You don't have to clear money for them until they are actually signed though.
