Several rookies for the Saints were made to "run the gauntlet" a few years ago. They had to run through a double line of guys with pillow cases on their heads while the guys in the lines beat them with stuff such as rolls of coins inside socks. A couple of them were hurt pretty bad. Anyone who thinks that stuff helps build a team or brings players closer together is just an idiot.

Chuck Knoll has had more success than anyone as a head coach and he took a very dim view of hazing.

Honestly I don't have a problem with rooks carrying other guys' helmets and pads, having to stand during meals and sing college fight songs and such - I think that sort of stuff can be in good fun and humor can build relationships, but the "mean stuff" is just stupid.

well obviously there are extremes you don't want to go to, but getting taped to a goal post and getting a gatorade shower isn't really a bad thing

I hope Fox ain't gonna start putting "sissy" rules in. Goalpost taping is an old and honored tradition :laugh1:

I think that rookies should be allowed some basic level of respect. Being taped to a goal post is not acceptible to me. Obviously not everyone appreciates it and it does cause some hard feelings. Maybe some of it is harmless but it all can lead to stuff that should not ever be happening. The best solution is to cut it out all together.

Hazing happens in areas outside the NFL and it is a problem in schools. Society needs to realize that this is only fun for the ones who get to do the bullying. You would think that Columbine would have taught us the dangers of bullying and hazing. Those two kids who did the killing were known to have been bullyed by the "jocks" who were immitating their heros in the NFL.

If I were coach Fox I would stop all of it right now.

BTW, Steve Smith is going to meet up with the wrong guy and get his ass kicked if he keeps it up.

I tend to be stubborn about things like this because I simply cannot understand the big deal....I mean this is really just a personal preference thing. This is about the choices we all like to make and how we live with the consequences. I find this kind of childish behavior, while being a complete pain in the ass and something I hated going through in my sports and military careers, to be a rite of passage that has to be experienced if you plan on operating effectively in an environment comprised of leaders and followers. I feel that it helps define who the followers are and assist them in comprehending the hierarchy in a very personal way.

I guess a lot of people just think it is mean, or stupid or whatever other two syllable word comes to mind. They do not see the warrior aspect to the whole thing.

If this sort of team is truly disturbing perhaps we should view solving the problem. We get rid of John Fox and in bring in a Dave McGinnis type of HC. I am sure training camp would be chock full of Mai Tai's, tiki torches and fireside round tables singing Kumbyfuckingya in each others arms. Press conferences would be all teary eyed moments that make the NBC Olympics coverage seem like a godamn Michael Moore movie. Game balls would be awarded for excellence in sportsmanship and every mother fucking week after the next we would droop over our stadium seats in Bank of American Stadium just wondering why the hell we keep losing games...

Bring on the freaking heat baby.....Quit your bitching or head out hitching rook, cus yo ass is mine....WooOOOooo!!

It's a good thing you're not coach fox, else we'd hug our opponents instead of tackling them.

    stop being a pussy.

I would rather have a losing team than to have a winning team that is running rampant with hazing.

I do not see how humiliating someone and degrading them is going to help them function as part of a team. If I were in the military I would not want to be hazed. If I were hazed I would hold that against the ones who did it and look for a chance for revenge. You want to put your life in my hands if you are the one who hazed me?
