I know this is a stretch but look at the similarities and then the differences.
Chargers good defence, young quarterback great runningback, tough conference, no name wide receivers (Conway, and Dwight)

Panthers good defence, young quarterback (Fasani), potential good runningback in Foster, tough conference, and no name receivers (Moose and Smith)

What have they done that we havn't done so far? Once Foster comes back and as committed to the run as Henning seems to be (we all know that Marty is run first, pass 2nd) think we can turn the corner from medicrity to respectable? Just a thought

What have the Chargers done at all to be in the position they are? I mean is their line that much better than ours?

    LT.

Brees is efficient, but LT is better than I thought he'd be. Much.

Same offensive line. They are better at reciever. Similar defenses. We have a stronger pass rush, they've got the best Run D in the league, and a better secondary.

The Chargers have a good MOBILE QB, a damn good RB and a damn good WR in Conway. When you have a good running game and a good passing and a well balanced attack that keeps defense's guessing, you will have success.

We have NO Qb at all. no passing game which is gonna hurt any kind of running game we might have in Foster. Damn I'm getting depressed just typing this.

Brees isn't what I'd call a mobile QB. More than Weinke? Sure. Steve Young? No. Montana? Maybe.

Fasani is more athletic. Brees is better because he's an efficient passer.

Brees can move. I was kinda comparing him to Wienke and Peete so maybe I was a little overboard with the CAPS. Could Weinke or Peete honestly make another NFL team besides ours?

Brees is efficient, makes plays, does what he's asked. Tomlinson is a workhorse but he's also the playmaker. Their line isn't better than ours if we take both playing well, but they have TEs they actually use and they move the ball. They face 8 man fronts and still succeed, and make teams pay overall for having put the safety up.

They're still probably one receiver away from truly being threatening. Dwight needs to be a #3. There's a similarity.

As good as Morgan could ever be, he'll never make the plays Seau has and will and both defenses are basically a function of their leaders. We have a stronger overall D, if we could get our backs right, and more pressure. We have no confidence, especially on offense, and look disorganized.

I'll record the Chargers game this weekend and write down some play calling. They open it up a little bit. They can because they can run. Teams can't really stuff the run because Brees is good enough that if you take away the run, he can beat you, or atleast make enough plays that you have to respect the pass.

Marty's a good coach. He coaches execution, balance, and take-aways. His teams are short on mental mistakes or he's short on patience.

They have some offensive weapons. The Cats don't. Actually, they are where I would hope to be next season.
