If you claim them off of waivers then their contract remains in effect, so you would have to keep them at their existing base salary, and not many veterans would fit.

They can get under the cap by extending Kalil, but not enough to add any new free agents of significance.

True, there really aren't any free agents of significance left out there. Maybe Leonard Davis or Kelvin Hayden?

This basic roster was 12-4 a couple of years ago with Jake Delhomme under center. If Cam turns out to be the real deal I think we can be good again.

In news that surprises absolutely no one, Gantt is a moron. Teams are already done making salary cuts, at least for the most part. There will still be a few who get released, but not many of significance.

Good lord, no. That team had Hoover, Moose, Vincent, Lewis, Peppers, Lucas, and Harris. I'll never understand how you sometimes adopt the things I say almost word for word, then other times steadfastly refuse to let go of some nonsense idea that has taken root in your brain. QB was very far from the only problem last season, and Cam Newton is not JaMarcus Russell.

None of those guys were really difference makers besides Peppers and CJ's emergence mitigates that. The defense should be better in 2011 than it was in 2008. Hoover, Moose and Vincent were role players at that point.

I was afraid Cam would bust like Russell. I am starting to come around on him though. He seems to be doing all the right things so far.
