Davis is not going to command big money coming off two straight ACL tears. Keeping him should not be that hard. Anderson has only one good year but he is healthy. I think we should keep them both.

I don't know how Anderson, smaller than Davis, did succeed at SLB but he did. Possibly that the Tampa 2 allows it (don't forget, 'prototype' WLB Derrick Brooks was at WLB often).

he did succeed, however, and he looks like he has a nose for pass rushing shown last year that he never showed before - and much better than Beason, for whatever reason.
The thing that this defense likely will require - with or without any 3-4 elements - is a lot more time at the LOS for the SLB and that's where I feel like he's less built compared to, say, Matt Roth or any number of available 3-4 OLB that are decent at everything.

But, keeping them both is certainly ideal.

Someone remind me - why was Anderson not that great until last year? Either something clicked for him or something was holding him back.

he didn't get much playing time before '10, but he never put together a preseason that suggests he should've gotten that chance.

If we keep Anderson and Davis then our linebackers should be the strength of our defense.

Yeah, he wasn't getting a lot of playing time in the base defense, but from what I remember of previous preseasons he didn't look that great when he did. I think at weakside with more open space he was more indecisive and just didn't really have a lot of the speed and pursuit you like to see. At strongside his responsibilities were more defined, and for whatever reason the guy is pretty darn good mixing it up. I wonder if all that time on special teams actually helped develop him in that respect, because he does a nice job of getting through traffic and shedding blockers. As magnus correctly notes, he plays a more physical style than his weight would suggest.

    good, I guess.
I mean, he's the starter. I want him, I'd just rather have an equal player at another position where we don't have two to three other good players. maybe we can get trade value for Sutton.

apparently, CJ said same on First Take, sidestepped a lot of questions but said he wanted to stay. Make that happen.

The possibility of having to trade Steve Smith and losing DeAngelo to free agency a year after losing Peppers would be a big blow to the fan base.

I feel you on DeAngelo, great to have him back but I'd be ok if we lost him.
I kinda feel the organization feels we have to resign him because it would look bad if we lost him.

DeAngelo is the best player on our offense. I'm all for dealing Goodson or even Sutton.
