N.C. State center Josh Powell has decided to stay in the NBA draft, ending his college career and jeopardizing what looked to be a sparkling upcoming season for the Wolfpack.

Underclassmen have until Friday to withdraw from the June 27 draft and retain their eligibility, but two sources close to Powell - on the condition they not be named - said he will stay in the draft.

Powell's AAU coach from Georgia, Norman Parker, isn't one of those two sources, but he did say Powell had given no indication he would return to N.C. State.

"Some agent has gotten to him and conveyed that he will be taken in the first round, and that's just not true," Parker said. "Not that he won't be drafted somewhere, but it'll probably be in the second round, and that's not worth it. I've conveyed that to Josh and his people, but I think his mind is made up."

If Powell has signed with an agent, he cannot return to school under NCAA rules. Academically, he is eligible to return. An employee of the N.C. State registrar's office said Powell completed the spring semester in good standing.

Rodney was a lottery pick. I doubt Powell will make 1st round...if even, 2nd.

nbadraft.net is predicting that he will be the 41st pick.

i say he should consider himself lucky if he goes that high
