Packman to Host NBA Team Name/Color/Logo Unveiling Party on 6/11

    I was a tad late for work today, so I was able to catch the beginning of PRIMETIME today . . . The slimmed down Packman announced that he is hosting the NBA Team Name/Logo Unveiling Party next Wednesday (June 11) at Trade & Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte . . . The whole thing is suppose to last from 11:30am-2pm (?) . . .

    Man, its hard to believe that over the last several months-year, Packman went from someone who could care less about the NBA to someone who is appearing to be enthusiastic about pro hoops coming back to town . . When did he have this 'born-again' experience :) :confused: **? ?




    ** Or better yet, perhaps Packman is playing the good corporate employee now (Infinity Broadcasting owns WFNZ, which is owned by VIACOM, which owns BET which is run by Bob Johnson, owner of the new NBA team . . . Don't forget the corporate tie-ins kids :D :D !!!!!!!) . . . I'm sure WFNZ will be a big part of the new NBA franchise (flagship radio station, tons of NBA programming, marketing events, etc.) . . I'm sure he doesn't want to piss off Mr. Johnson now with his 'anti-NBA rantings' , would he ;) ? ? ?

    Only casually aware of this - but didn't Bob Johnson sell of his BET interest and step down a CEO before he got the new franchise?

    Yes, Bob sold BET to VIACOM, but he still is the CEO of the company :) . . .

    WFNZ will never be the flagship station of any pro team as long as they are a 5000 watt station. They've been promising signal upgrades since it was WAYS back in the late 70s and how many owners have there been since then?

    I received word a year ago that the signal upgrade was going to happen in the early days of the new WFNZ when Infinity Broadcasting bought the station, but it was cancelled at the last second . . That is why nobody at the stations mentions it anymore . . . WFNZ still could be the flagship station, as long as its team with a high powered FM station (POWER98 or V101.9, which are Infinity owned) if Bob Johnson can't flex his corporate muscle to get the signal improved (though i can't see why not . . being the 50K watt home of a NBA team would generate more revenue for the station).
