My daughter is traveling over seas (Greece) for 3 weeks and would like to keep in touch with her from time to time. She is carrying her mini laptop with her that has Instant messenger, she has a new ATT cellphone that for $8.99 a month gets her 1.29/min calls. Can you think of any other ways of communications that is cheaper

This is the only way to go. skype/skype/skype.
It's a crime what we used to pay for phone service.

The problem is WIFI internet is expensive in Greece as a good many people don't use it. She is on the move from home/hotel to home/hotel about every 4-5 days. She is studying abroad. She is carrying her mini laptop and it's already to go with Skype/Gmail/ and AOLIM. She is going to call us from time to time and try reaching us via one of the above mentioned ways when she is in a city and near a WIFI connection. I read where Starbucks (yes they have Starbucks there) have WIFI but charge to surf in there but if you step next door to a Greek Euro coffee chain (don't recall the name) next door you can surf for free.

She changed her mind at the last moment. I called ATT and her pone is fine for overseas use.

All that stuff just makes it more exciting. Studying overseas is great. I got to do it once and wish I could go do it again.
