Can anybody explain to me why you run the ball on 3rd and long? Once in a blue moon to try and sneak one by is one thing, but to run the ball up the gut 3 straight times is just plain NUTS. COACHING is the biggest problem we have here. We shoulda scored a TD after that long run by Smith puts us in the 5. This coaching staff has no clue. The only decent coach we have is Del Rio.

I unfortunately think theyare playing a game that seifert tried to play last year but didn't have the horses for, they are trying to stay almost close enough to almost win to keep the fans interested, but the record bad enough to draft well. This sucks Fox will have a grimace on his face and say golldarnit and stuff.

It would be different if we were doing it once a game in order to get field position. We do it multiple times a game, mostly with a close game after having some amount of offensive success, instead of attempting to get the first down in a rational manner.

I never expected a great offense this year. I knew coming in that Henning was boring, but effective when possible. But talent we can't change. We gotta live with the fact that occasionally we must throw Hankton the ball when the D is punking our top two and three receivers. I can't blame Henning for a missed block or a dropped ball.

He can't change those things. He can change the playcalling, and to a degree has. But the frustrating part is still there, as is the conservative nature and, for the most part, the unwillingness to adapt. To talent, to opponent, to game conditions, you know, menial details like that.

My problem is these guys just don't look prepared coming in. The defense is playing to it's full potential, and it still lacks talent, so maybe they are over achieving, and I give Del Rio major credit. It's all him. But the offense seems to have no clue. There's seems to be confusion, especially in critical situations. And even when it's not, stupid penalties will create them. Parcels always quized guys on what would you if..... Just his way of getting his guys prepared for Sunday. I'm not sure the guys even know the game plan, if there is one..... or maybe it's just the same game plan everyweek regardless of who we play. We did see that in preseason, but we just figured because it was preseason. I don't think this team's offense gets the coaching it needs during the week.

There's brief moments of good play, but there's no rythum, there's no sense of urgancy, there's no fire.

And what's up with the wrist band. Peete had to look at before a QB sneak.

I'll disagree with our defense lacking talent. We have quite a bit of it, although much of it is still young. However, I do agree that Del Rio is getting the most out of the "D" (at least until the final 2 minutes). I just wish he would play the Safeties as aggressively when the game is on the line as he does the rest of the game.

I don't think the problems on offense have anything to do with being prepared, I believe it is more an issue of us having backup players in key roles...especially at the skill positions. So I feel they are overwhelmed and underskilled or just plain past their prime. I believe they are prepared in practice, but when the game starts, they just can't physically match up consistantly against NFL defenses.

At this point in their careers Lamar Smith and Wesley Walls should not be relied on to start and should only be situational players. Kris Mangum and Steve Smith also have no business getting the time they do. Mangum should be no more than our #3 TE, and Smith should be, at best, a #4 receiver. And despite playing well today, Peete should only be a mentor to a younger QB and not see the field except under the most dire circumstances.

Add that to the questionable playcalling, and we have a receipe for disaster.

Yep, in the final minutes when we have a lead the defensive play calling gets softer. I would rather lose by a few TDs while playing to win than continually get eeked out in the last few minutes while playing not to lose. There were at least SOME promising flashes of more aggressive play calling in the second half (on BOTH sides of the ball), but we obviously didn’t get enough pressure on Brooks on their final TD drive.
Does anyone out there know how many times we sent anyone other than a lineman after Brooks during that drive?

Sorry to ask an elementary question, but if I don't ask someone who knows, I'll never know. Is Del Rio the person responsible for the shift at the end of these games to the "prevent" defense. If not, who is? Thanks.

It's hard to say, Star, and that's actually a very good question, one that doesn't have a defined answer. Del Rio obviously has the first call on that, but usually a major change in philosophy comes from the head coach. I can't place blame on either, but I wouldn't at first sight say it's either's style to sit back and go "duh" like that. Then again the offensive style has supposedly been traced back to Fox, so that's more likely for me to suggest it's Fox.

On the other hand, in AZ, we blitzed when we hadn't been blitzing all game. That's when they turned on the receiver screen, which probably would have worked anyway.

Thanks Mags. I was really starting to think that Del Rio was just a football god or something considering the turn around in our defense, but if he's responsible for the late 4th qtr play calling, maybe he's human after all.

yeah. After the week one celebration and then the first quarter catch he made, it's easy to brand him a hero. He's really a nice asset. But he may also be a goober for a while till he gets his legs back :D
