from the ap article about the cards-lions game...

"Jake Plummer completed 24 of 43 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns, despite a drastically depleted corps of wide receivers. It was the 21st time Plummer had brought his team back from a tie or a deficit in the fourth quarter; he's done it in all five of Arizona's victories this season."

cards have met with little success, but i don't think it's fair to put the fault entirely on plummer. they have been an extremely unstable team, changing coaches every few seasons, with a minimum amount of talent on either side of the ball, little fan support and a less-than-adequate owner. say what you will about plummer, but i think he has demonstrated that he knows how to win, which is something that i don't think any of our current roster of qb superstars can claim. if the price is right, i don't see why we shouldn't pursue him.

jake plummer is as big a dog as there ever has been in the league. no way in hell is he a panther as long as fox is the coach. this offense needs to control the ball and get it into the end zone. plummer has NEVER been able to do that.

in 81 games played, he has 85 carrer touchdowns and 112 interceptions. he's never thrown for more than 18 TDs in a season yet has thrown at least 14 interceptions each season. he's never gotten better than a 79 quarterback rating for a season. right now, rodney peete has a qb rating of 79.

that's pathetic. it's no wonder he's had to rally them in the 4th quarter, he gives the opponent the ball and the lead in the other 3.

  3. fassani could do that against the lions secondary.

although they NFL's policy of over protecting the QB robbed the lions. Porcher tipped a pass on their winning drive, it was intercepted and returned inside the cards 10....hanson isn't going to miss a fg from their. The refs called a personal foul face mask on porcher even though he didn't touch plummer's face mask...

plummer is not the type of qb that can fit in our offensive schema- plummer has relied upon the 2 minute drill to really make a name for himself. he's a gamer, when and if the game is on the line- but a lot of the times, his sub-par accuracy and weak arm put the game out of reach early on. i think he can be a clog for temporary fix, but he's not the answer. anyone impressed with AJ feely?

don't get me wrong. i don't think plummer is "the answer" for the qb situation here. but i do think he is an upgrade over the sad sacks that we now employ. peete is inadequate, weinke is done, here at least, and fasani is a non-factor, whether you think he's got potential or not, he will not be the starter next year.

be wary of fa backups. the road to nfl miserable mediocrity has been paved with backups being rewarded with starting jobs based on a handful of appearances. brunell, bline and hostetler are the only backup names that come to mind that have had good fotunes, and they don't overshadow the specters of mitchell, johnson and grbac to name a few.

what i don't want to see is the same set of qbs next year. in my opinion, any change is going to be a change for the better.

    Trent Dilfer?

Hasselbeck seems to have finally learned Holmgren's offense, and is playing reasonably well. IF Holmgren releases Dilfer, would you want him in Carolina?

IMO, his strengths would fit this offense perfectly. His locker room presence and leadership is second to few in this league. He's not that old. Of course he's coming off a moderate knee sprain and an achilles tear. What do you think?

For the record, I'd take him.

On the record, I'd take Dilfer...but I'd prefer King. Have I mentioned that before?

just out of curiosity, why king?
he didn't show me anything during his stint as bucs starter that set him apart, nor since then. i'm not necessarily saying no, but i just don't see the appeal.

he managed their offense pretty well. didnt make any big errors, nor did he throw the ball like a richy gannon. but, he didnt have a very imaginative offensive coordinator or coach, plus shitty recievers. i think if we can grab a solid WR in FA or the draft, and another rb (or foster returns), he'll have some solid tools. hopefully, henning opens the playbook to suit his strengths.

    Couple reasons:

    1. Price - King would be fairly cheap compared to anyone else, except maybe Delhomme...who I like as well.

    2. Experience - One full season as the starter, given more time I think he would have continued to develop, but he ran their offense pretty well for a rookie. That offense similar to ours in that it was stripped down so that the QB wasn't in a position to have to win games for them.
Delhomme similar, but with less experience.

    3. Youth - I'd like to see a guy that could be a starter for more than a couple years. Someone with more future than past. Both would fit that description.
