So, I'm pretty much resigned to the idea that I'm going to eventually have to get surgery to fix my cauliflower ear. I've been draining it with a needle/syringe, but it never comes all the way down, and I either can't put enough consistent pressure on it to keep it from filling up again, or it's just gonna do it regardless. But I'm wondering if, if I was patient enough to spend a lot of time jabbing the needle in the ear to find different pockets of fluid, if I'd be able to drain it really well and make it stay put for a while. I can handle sticking the needle in my ear for a while, but after some time it does get sore and I start to lose patience, but I figure if I can numb the whole thing, make multiple holes, and take my time, maybe I'd do a better job. I tried a little Oragel last time, and it kind of helped, but is there a really good topical anesthetic out there that would really do the job so I can do this more comfortably?

go to a dermatologist and let him/her take care of it once and for all! Everytime you stick a needle in there (no matter how sterile you get it), you risk getting it infected. Get MRSA in there and you're screwed!

But to answer your question, look for something with the highest % of lidocaine in it you can find.

Thanks! I'm starting to think draining it may not work at all. They're gonna need to slice it and dig out the gunk, but I have to wait until after my mid January tournament.

I saw your ear before I saw you walking down the street the other day.
