I think the best way is to just take the current BCS format, and make that your selection criteria for the top 8 teams. You can use the 6 big bowls (Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, Rose, Cotton, and lets say Citrus), and rotate them for who gets what game in which round.

Right now, their are 6 BCS conferences and two at larges. Drop the Big East and you have 5 automatic bids and 3 at larges. That's fair. If a small school team can't beat out the three other second place finishers from the big schools, they should stay home.

Right now, TCU would qualify. They are 6th. I don't know if they would end up qualifying, it would depend on who in the top 5 won thier conference, but they would likely go.

    But they'd still get stomped.

I wouldn't be surprised either. For the same reason you mention - it gets pretty hard to focus after weeks of this BCS shit.

But the one I really have my eye on is at S. Miss next Thursday. I hope THE MAN is stupid enough to give me 6 there.

    Interesting.

THE MAN has made Southern Miss the favorite Thursday. Opened at 3.5.

Nobody is bitching about LSU’s weak schedule. Nobody cares that Florida State likely won’t finish in the top 10 in the BCS standings, yet they are still going to a BCS bowl. Nobody says anything about how USC lost to lowly Cal, yet they still have a chance to play in the national championship game.

TCU deserves to be in one of the BCS bowls. How could you exclude an undefeated team that will finish in the top eight in the BCS standings? They may get rolled depending on who they play, but that doesn’t matter. Every year some team gets blown out in a BCS game, but it doesn’t mean they deserve to be there any less.

With all the pressure put on from the have-nots in 1A football, I fully expect there to be an additional BCS game put in place when the contract is renewed. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the ten spots was guaranteed to the highest ranked team from the current non-BCS conferences.

I'm all for it. We could call it the Suck Ass Bowl. In honor of the teams that play in a suck ass conference.

LSU, with their weak ass schedule, still is rated at 61 schedule strength with a record of 2-1 against teams rated in the Top 30.

FSU, while not finishing in the Top 10, will have won the ACC. Schedule rated 24.

USC, while losing to Cal also has whooped a few teams in the Top 30 and will win the Pac 10 if they run the table. Besides, USC might get passed by Ohio State. Got a problem with the Buckeyes too I'd guess?

Even an undefeated TCU won't finish in the Top 6 of the BCS standings. They still have SMU on the schedule who might be the worst team in Division 1. The schedule is currently rated 111 and they have played zero teams in the Top 30. Part of it is they can't help that Arizona blows. That would help. But Vandy? Get them off the schedule. Ditto SMU. They need to beg teams to play them like Fresno and others do - even if it means going to play at good schools in September. My advice to TCU would be to take that invite to the Mountain West and run. That would help.

Note - All of the rating I referred to are from Sagarin. But almost all of the comps are not fond of the TCU schedule.
