    If steroids has such a dominating effect in baseball making players much bigger, faster and stronger.... how is it that Japan won the WBC last night?

    You can argue the extent to which they improve players but I don't think you can argue that they make them bigger faster and stronger. I don't think there is any question about that or else why would they take them?

    Uhm ... Japan won because the tournament has a screwy format. They barely won more games than they lost, but they took the tournament because they won the two important ones at the end during the semifinals and finals. That and a great many of the game's best sluggers didn't bother to show up.

    That and they played together a lot longer than the Americans. They played with each other for around 2 months prior to showing up in the tournement. That and they value the team aspect of baseball. Something the Americans gave up on years ago. But like Collin said if most of Americas best players had shown up I doubt if the Americans would have lost a game.
