Some discussion in another thread got me to thinking about the whole issue of Christ's fulfillment of laws in the OT, rendering some things (like animal sacrifices, for instance) no longer required.

I once belonged to a Christian church that kept very faithfully to OT guidelines. They made a distinction between "spiritual" laws & "physical" laws. Christ fulfilled the spiritual requirement for blood sacrifice, so that is no longer required.

Other things like the dietary laws & so forth, they contend, is God's revelation to people how to best live in the physical world. So the laws against eating pork or shellfish were given because those are unhealthy. The laws concerning lepers & cleansings & so forth are basic sanitation principles needed for a healthy community--things that would have taken many centuries for them to discover by trial & error.

    Thoughts?

That sounds very similar to a Seventh-day Adventist. SDAs make a distinction between the 10 Commandments (spiritual laws) and the Mosaic laws (ceremonial laws intended for the Jews only).

The ceremonial laws included the health laws, i.e. eating kosher food. Most SDAs follow the health laws because they were God's way of helping the Jews be healthy and live longer.

Well, I've moved to PA, changed careers and done all kinds of things I shouldn't admit to. :)

I've missed this board and hopefully can get back into it again.

Thanks for asking - I wondered if anyone would even notice.

    Thanks sly!

I see you're still carrying Coach K's banner. You sure he wasn't the Duke lacrosse team entertainment director?
