that way, the big 12 can get two teams into the BCS -- hell, OU will still play for the national title.

That would be nice, but I think Texas has a chance of getting one of the at large bids to a bcs bowl. K-State could win and not even have a chance to go to the Fiesta if OU & Texas are #1/#2 in the BCS and face each other for the NC.

Yes. I've seen it in print elsewhere too. But it would require a very weird set of circumstances. For the most part it would require Texas landing in the 1 or 2 slot.

    Here's the article:

"Way too early," laughed Derrick Fox, representative of the Alamo Bowl.

But yes, the San Antonio, Texas, attraction does have a great interest in Kansas State for its Dec. 29, contest against a rival from the Big 10 Conference.

"I haven't checked out all the scores today, but both of these teams are in our mix," Fox said, prior to kickoff.

Later, Fox said, "Obviously, Kansas State could end up in the BCS (with a win over Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game), but if they don't, it's a team that's appealing to us."

"They seems to have great fans and you have to give coach (Bill) Snyder tremendous credit for bouncing back this year after starting off 0-2 in the conference and 4-3 overall," said Fox. "They put their nose to the grindstone and did a tremendous job."

Candidates from the Big 10 include Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

With the Holiday Bowl selecting ahead of the Alamo, Fox said the outcome of the Nebraska-Colorado game on Nov. 28 could alter the Alamo's selection.

In visiting with conference and bowl officials, the expectation is for two teams from the Big 12 to get into the Bowl Championship Series with Oklahoma being one of those whether it wins or loses in the title game.

If Oklahoma would defeat K-State, then Texas would be the second representative; if K-State would pull the upset, then it would be the Wildcats and Sooners.

Kansas State would automatically go to the Fiesta Bowl, in that case, and the Sooners would become an at-large team if not ranked No. 1 or No. 2.

There is an outside chance that if Oklahoma and Texas would end up No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS poll, Kansas State would be left out of the BCS mix due to the guarantee that the top two teams play for the national championship.

Oklahoma State is still the likely choice of the Cotton Bowl for its Jan. 2 game, while Nebraska, win or lose on the 28th in Boulder, is the likely choice of the Holiday Bowl.

That would probably leave Kansas State, or Texas (if is not in the BCS), for the Alamo Bowl's 8 p.m. kickoff.

The only two locks for the BCS, as of Saturday, are Florida State as ACC champions, and Michigan, which is locked into the Rose Bowl as the Big 10 champ.

Also at KSU Stadium Saturday were representatives from the Fiesta Bowl, Independence Bowl, which will likely take Missouri, and the Tangerine Bowl, which is looking at Colorado or Kansas.

I don't think they will either, but the small chance is there.
