Okafor named rookie of the month

    Charlotte's first-ever draft pick averaged double-double in 13 games

For the first time in franchise history, a Charlotte Bobcats player was honored for his accomplishments on the court, as Emeka Okafor was named the NBA's rookie of the month.

The 6-10, 252-pound forward has started all 13 games for the Bobcats and averaged a double-double with 13.5 points and 10.1 rebounds. Okafor also posted 21 blocked shots, including a career-high four blocked shots at Detroit on Nov. 21.

Okafor closed out November by posting five consecutive double-doubles. The fifth came against New Jersey Tuesday when he scored a season-high 26 points and 12 rebounds.

The rookie's seven double-doubles on the season tie him for eighth in the NBA, where he also ranks 12th in rebounds, 17th in blocks (1.6 bpg) and 35th in field goal percentage (.484).

Among all NBA rookies, Okafor is first in minutes (34.8 mpg), second in scoring, rebounding and blocks, sixth in field goal percentage, eighth in steals (0.8 spg) and 16th in assists (1.1 apg).

The honor is the first "NBA's got Milk? Rookie of the Month" given this year.

He looks to be the real deal. Maybe they can build around him.
