I have a hard time believing that any of that crap matters. I willing to bet you that Ryan Leaf or cade McNown were rated higher in the draft then Tom Brady or Joe Montana. So what does that matter? Branch didn't come in raw and start at FS. He had a year to learn from the great Deon Grant before taking over. Bringing in a guy who doesn't even understand the position fully at a college level and throwing him in an NFL game can't possibly improve the situation.

Yep, you're right. All safeties will bust because they fear Colin Branch's greatness.

Seems to be better value in other areas where we also have needs.

    Such as........

Which isn't to say we don't have other needs. You could expand a little.

Other than perhaps tackle, I can't think of another place with less depth than safety. Even if you really, really think highly of Branch, you also have to really, really believe Minter will not decline further, will get an extention, and that both will stay healthy through the year.

I agree with you that we need safety help. However, I feel that that can best be addressed thru FA. There are some decent FA safeties out there. A rookie safety, especially of the talent available, would be a serious problem, especially should one of the scenarios you mentioned occur, ie, Minter gone or Branch hurt. A safety of that skill level will have a difficult time stepping in and starting, hes out there all alone.

That player will be more expensive though. And therefore, would be a likely starter.

And I haven't seen a list UFA safeties. I'd like to.

It's not much. WP pimps McCree and Bashir, and while they and most of the UFA are an upgrade, they're not better than even a Butler would be right off, much less a Thomas Davis.

I was never happy that Seifert re-signed that guy. We paid that sack of shit $825k to half-heartedly play in a few preseason games and then work off an injury at our expense. Why do you sign a backup DB for 3+ years?
