Without having done much research yet, I'd tend to agree with those saying BPA at 14 with a few exceptions. QB, CB and DE are out. The way Moorehead played in Jenkins' absence last year, DT is probably out too.

But WR and RB (Benson or one of the Auburn duo) are definite possibilities. LB might be, if we lose Fields or especially Witherspoon somehow. Safety is a need (both sides, IMO), but that's awfully high to take one in this year's draft.

I dunno. But this year's draft just got a lot more interesting, for me at least. :)

I'd like to see a big physical reciever to compliment Smith. I like Colbert but I can't help but see him more as a number 3 reciever - not a speedy gamebreaker like Smith or a physical player like Muhammed but more of a fundamentally sound posession reciever like Proehl.
I'm not saying we should reach at 14, but first day. I still think that OL should be a first day priority as well.

The staff, of course, has inside information on on Davis and Foster that we don't. But just guessing let's say their view is that Davis has 1/2 yr left in him at high productinity and Foster is completely healed but on the fragile side. If that's the viewpoint you have, would you take Ronnie Brown at 14?? Many think he will be there.

After the combine most have Ronnie Brown rated the #1 RB.

I'd take an "educated guess" that Davis will start the season on the PUP list, leaving us with Foster/Goings.

I realize your quote is simple to explore a hypothetical situation, but I believe many are overlooking Stephen Davis' actual wear. Yes, he's 31, in the same general age group with Curtis Martin (31), Corey Dillon(30), Jerome Bettis (33) and Priest Holmes (31). However, his body as taken much less of a pounding. He only has 1,725 carries in his career. Compare that to Curtis Martin at 3,298 carries, Corey Dillon at 2,210 carries and Bettis at 3,369 carries and in terms of body punishment, you might speculate that Stephen Davis has the better opportunity to play for a few more years at a productive level. Priest Holmes is probably the best comparrison. He is 31, has 1,615 carries and missed 8 games last year. If your KC and you have a 31 year old Priest Holmes recovering from injury do you use your 1st round pick on a RB?

If we take a RB with our 14th pick, then it will be a clear sign that our front office does not believe Davis is likely to return and be effective. If they do believe his recovery is on tract, then they may very well see 2-3 years of the Foster/Davis combination and not focus on a Day 1 RB this year. The draft will certainly give us some insight on how the front office feels about Davis and Foster.

yeah, they had a 30 year old Holmes and used their first pick on a RB.

To everyone who's confident that Davis will be back...the mileage has nothing to do with microfracture surgery. It ended Pat Jeffers career. It's ended more careers than it's saved. Foster is one of the very few players to come back from microfracture surgery. I hope it works out for him, but the percentages suggest that he won't be a factor at RB.

Just curious, is this statement just your "gut" instincts or do you have actual hard data to support it. Everyone knows about Jeffers, but I have to admit I'm somewhat skeptical that the statement it has "ended more careers than it's saved" is accurate. Atheletes like Stephen Davis, imho would not be having the surgery if they believed it would likely end their careers. You may very well be correct, but I have to say my "gut" feeling would be that microfracture surgery has been more successful than unsuccessful.

As for Davis, I'm not in the confidant he'll be back camp. I just don't have a clue how his rehab is going. However, I do believe that the lack of mileage on his body will make a significant difference in his recovery. I just plan to watch how we draft day 1. If we pick up a RB in the 1st or 2nd round then I will read between the lines that Davis is bascically finished. If we don't, then I will read between the lines that the organization expects him to recover and be a significant part of the offense this season.

All this talk of drafting a RB seems a bit odd to me. We have at least 2 decent options, maybe 2.5 if SD makes it back, already on the roster. Right now at FS we have Colin Branch and a bag of doughnuts. WTF?? I would think FS is by far the number 1 priority.
