Flowers might be quality depth to someone looking to cultivate his talent and maybe make him hustle and get tough. Tate would work out OK for us, not great but decent, though we have our share of never-will-bes at corner already.

John Clayton says we're interested in Tate off waivers, and since we suck we'd get him if we put in a claim.

    >>New look to Vikings?
The release of cornerback Robert Tate completes the revamping of the Vikings' secondary from a year ago. Cornerbacks Tate and Kenny Wright are gone, along with safeties Robert Griffith and Orlando Thomas. Three teams -- Carolina, Green Bay and Baltimore -- are showing interest in claiming Tate on waivers. Claiming Tate could serve a dual purpose in Carolina, which is looking for cornerback depth. Plus, the Panthers are also looking for a returner after losing Michael Bates for the season with a broken leg. Tate averaged 25.1 yards per kickoff return for the Vikings in 1999.

Pick up tate. He started last year, returns kickoffs, and can't possibly make us worse :) Sounds like he feels a couple holes.

What's his salary on the waivers?

Tate makes a lot of sense. Flowers doesn't IMO. I thought he was a huge reach when they drafted him. He has shown just about nothing so far and I can't see anyone worth cutting to keep him. I am starting to warm to Wallace and see some potential there. Tate makes a lot of sense though.

Tate has been around for a while, got to be pushing 30 by now. He was a WR for three or four years and has played CB for two or three now.
His age aside, he should come pretty cheap. Maybe not league mini, but not too much more. He'd be a good short term fix with his ability to play various roles. A CB, return man and emergency WR all in one. Sounds like a good overall value.
