What.... huh? Weinke achieved some personal stats and in return achieved some personal incentives. Our team went 1-15, after the Viking game he did not do a lot to show that he is a playmaker. Really, I'm ok with Winky starting all year, if he earns it, but I do not buy into the fact that he has done anything or shown anything that he is heads above Fasani or a healthy Peete for that matter - why is this "air" that we owe Weinke the start?

I just wonder, if we walked away with 3 more games like last night, does Weinke still earn it?

Oh wait, I was very pleased with Weinke and the one play he made where he threw the ball away when it was a pass out into the flat. This is good! Last year he would have thrown an interception. The knock last year was he did not know how to just throw the ball away. So I was pleased to see that he did that early in the game.

Thats why it's called pre-season. May the best player win. But as he is the number one guy he has to be clearly out played the whole preseason to lose the job. Kind of like a champion in boxing. Knockout to take title not decision

I may not like it, but I accept it. ;) - Guess I'm just not sure why folks say Winky is still a lock as the starter. I'd rather hear people say, Winky is in a battle to keep that position. Its to early for Christmas, lets not buy the giftwrap just yet....

Sandy, it the coaching staff viewed the QB position as a battle, we'd see Weinke play more than a quarter. We'd see other guys start the next couple of games. Weinke only played a quarter, and he's gonna start. He didn't do anything to change that.

It's just not a competitive atmosphere, and won't be unless Weinke either gets hurt or really starts sucking. Even though I'd like it to be, I'm not sure if the coaching staff is going to let a legitimate competition take place for the #2 QB spot.

I think they will. Peete knows his place is to be a mentor. Give him the clipboard and let Fasani get his licks.

I hope so. I think you learn more as a #2 than as #3.

anywhere I lay my head I'm gonna call my home
    >>Financial considerations dictate that he's our starter.

I wouldn't even go that far. It's not as if Weinke is impossible to cut, or that we'd owe him great amounts of money. We've dedicated him as our starter for the time being, he's the most talented quarterback we have, and we're going to start out with him there. We don't, and can't, just switch starting quarterbacks at the drop of a hat and most teams that have done that, rare as it is, have had very, very bad results overall.

    >>Hell yes - I've been telling ya'll since mini camp that this guy will make the roster. He's got a great coach in Williamson, too.

Yep. Just concerned about his size. That and seeing him in some other situations.

    >>Speaking of which - a lot of our guys can lay the wood.

hell yeah they can. I remember a lot of sturdy linebacker hits. I can't remember a good linebacker hit, save QBs, in this team's history.

Must be nice to actually SEE the game. I didn't even get to listen to it online. I did catch the few hi-lites on ESPN.

From what I DID see though, Foster is everything I expected, a stud RB. His hilte reel from that one game already looks just like his college one. Not only did we get a steal in the 2nd round, but as a bonus he has a chip on his sholder with something to prove to every team in the league because they passed on him, and especially the ones who took RB's.

I also noticed Morgan was in on a few plays. I think he's going to have a great season. Speaking of MLB, anybody catch the Urlacher film? Damn, that guy is awesome.

Fasani will end up the #3 this year. Peete needs the reps at #2 to develope some form of chemistry with the first team in case Weinke should go down.
Granted, I didn't see the game, but I know Fasani isn't polished enough to walk on to the field against an NFL D and lead a team to victory...although I wouldn't say that he would lose a game for you, either?
At any rate, we're not terribly strong at QB, at least at this point. I think Weinke will come along, this offense really caters to his strengths...Henning's is brilliant that way, design a system based on your players, don't force your system on players who don't fit the requirements. He's like the Anti-Seifert in that respect. I just hope last year didn't set Weinke back too far to rebound.
Smith isn't going anywhere. While I agree, if he isn't performing well, he should go. He's a vet, and we need at least one guy with experience back there...even if he sucks ass? Good news on Foster and Goings, I still like Brown too...but I see him being the odd man out.
Sounds like Peppers needs to get manhandled for four quarters before he'll get the picture. I'd really like to see him get his ass kicked into giving a shit, but I don't know if it will ever happen. That's one of the downfalls of a person with too much talent, it all to often winds up wasted. Hope that changes soon!
Jackson is here to compete for the starting job, remember he came with Del Rio. There has to be a reason why Jack brought him along and I am sure it wasn't as a present for Scotty. I am guessing Navies is gone and Jackson will be the starter, just a hunch.
I didn't expect to hear anything good about our DB's...but it doesn't sound like they did all that bad, really. Wesley will get picked on, it's a given...that is, until he proves himself. Cousins will get toasted once a game, but he's still the best we've got without actually seeing Howard play/practice, myself.
