    Backgrounder...

I am a graduate of the school. I was on campus during the Dye years, and what Terry Bowden stated was generally accepted as fact on the Plains.

    DISCLAIMER:
There allegations have not been proven by a court of law or the NCAA.

There is a certain car dealer that provided cars to players based on seniority, it seemed that the majority of the cars came from a certain dealership group on Opelika Road (US 29).

The Godfather's Pizza on West Magnolia Avenue is no longer there, but it is well known that it was Sewell Hall West (Athletic Dorm where the really good chefs on campus worked and they ate quite well, thank you). Godfather's is now on campus proper, but regularly supplied Pizza's to the football team, and I have seen Mr. Dye personally in the restaurant at least 3 times. I don't think he paid for any of his meals, but I could be wrong.

BTW, all of the stuff came out from the program just after year 10 on the campus. This was the magic year for his Lake Martin spread to be paid for by my tuition dollars and the general fund of the Univ. The house was valued ~$500K in 1989 dollars. Put that house on Lake Norman and you would get $3 Million for it.

Yeah well you got to realize that endowments offten come as earmarked funds, so the coaches house got built. The students were all in an uproar when they built Mark Light field at UM, they wanted other improvements to campus. but the fact of the matter was mr light paid for the whole thing because his son used to like to watch UM practice base ball and if they didn't build the field, there was not going to be gift of money. Guaranteed your tuition dollars at face value may have paid for the residence, but you can be guaranteed that the boosters picked up the tab somewhere.

I don't remember the booster club being "that" important at that time, but you may be right. Anyhoo, Year 11 and the dung hits the fan. Coincidence? Enquiring and Observing minds would like to know for sure, but I was there only as a student, and might I add, not a particularly popular one. I did stand out as one of 350 black folks on campus that were not employees at the time.
