Here's a list of all the quarterbakcs who have been taken in the first round the last 10 years.

    David Carr Texans Fresno State
    Joey Harrington Lions Oregon
    Patrick Ramsey Redskins Tulane
    Michael Vick Falcons Virginia Tech
    Chad Pennington Jets Marshall
    Tim Couch Browns Kentucky
    Donovan McNabb Eagles Syracuse
    Akili Smith Bengals Oregon
    Daunte Culpepper Vikings Central Florida
    Cade McNown Bears UCLA
    Peyton Manning Colts Tennessee
    Ryan Leaf Chargers Washington State
    Jim Druckenmiller 49ers Virginia Tech
    Steve McNair Oilers Alcorn State
    Kerry Collins Panthers Penn State
    Heath Shuler Redskins Tennessee
    Trent Dilfer Buccaneers Fresno State
    Drew Bledsoe Patriots Washington State
    Rick Mirer Seahawks Notre Dame

Looking at this list, you can see what a risky proposition this can be. Of the 19 players listed, 8 have gone or are going to the Pro Bowl. EDIT Four have started Super Bowls, and as hasbeens points out, only Dilfer has won. 12 are the respective "starters" on the team when healthy, though only 10 will start this weekend due to injuries. 5 are active but have been relegated to backup positions. One, McNown, is on his third team and is on the Injured Reserve. Edit - THREE others, SHULER, Drunkenmiller and Leaf, are out of the game entirely. thanks hasbeens

Of course, the later round guys are even more hit and miss. Of the 6 day two picks in the highly regarded 1999 draft, only 1 is even in the NFL. Of course, that's Aaron Brooks.

I wish we could draft QBs like the Packers.

Worst class in the last 25 years - 1996.

    1 2 12 42 Tony Banks Rams Michigan State
    2 3 24 85 Bobby Hoying Eagles Ohio State
    3 4 5 100 Jeff Lewis Broncos Northern Arizona
    4 4 35 130 Danny Kanell Giants Florida State
    5 6 36 203 Spence Fischer Steelers Duke
    6 6 38 205 Mike Cawley Colts James Madison
    7 7 29 238 Jon Stark Ravens Trinity
    8 7 31 240 Kyle Wachholtz Packers USC

Other than Banks, are any of these guys even in the NFL?

    >>Correction. 1 has won. Dilfer.

    Right.

    >>I don't think Shuler's playing anywhere. And is Banks on a roster? I thought he was out of a job.

Shuler is playing real estate salesman in Knoxville. So yeah, 3 are out.

Banks is David Carr's backup, I believe.

    >>Me too. I wonder what it would take to get Ron Wolf into the Panthers War Room on draft day

    That would be the shiznit.

Ooops. Banks wasn't even a first round pick. Nevermind.

They drafted Brooks, Brunnell, and Hasselbeck.

Oh yeah. I was confusing 'drafted' with 'kept'.
