    No, dude, you're wrong. Foster does have 5 career carries of 20 yards or more (3 this year against the aforementioned terrible defenses), but Goings has 3 of his own. The only real difference in their performance is that Foster has benefitted from facing some crap defenses while Goings had to play in '04 against some pretty good ones.
    Fair enough, but he's not "very good" either. As noted, the only good games Foster has ever had were against terrible defenses. He simply hasn't produced against the good or even average ones.
    I'm cool with you thinking that there is a big dropoff, and you may be right on that, but it's not dishonest to say that there isn't a big dropoff because it's a reasonable position to take given each back's history. Personally I don't feel that it's a big dropoff either, although meatpile made an excellent point about the dropoff potentially being where we reach down into our depth chart.

    Actually, to me, Goings is an undistinguished experienced and competent back in our system. He hits a whole better than Foster most times- especially if it's a small one. He's not quite as powerful as Foster- demonstrating a wake of broken tackles and runs such as the TD in the NFCCG against the Iggles. He's not quite as elusive/fast as Foster to take a long one to the house like Foster has (albeit mostly against very inferior Ds) he did in the SB against the Pats.

    However, goings gets tough yards. Create a little seam and he's money on 3rd and 3 or less cause he'll find it. He's good in space. He's good at catching passes and screens. He's shown to be one of our best on screens. He does well on draws of 3rd and longs.

    But consistently, he runs hard, finds a hole decisively and gets his average a lot.

    And that's all we need in this O against a good d.

    I think he'll do fine. If he can get 100 yards (and he has before) this Sunday, he'll be all we need from him.

    And Robertson might not be so bad a 3rd down back. He might excell at the draws and screens, who knows.

    But the lack of depth for sure is more of a concern.

    Sure, we'll miss Foster to a point. But Goings can provide what we need.

    I'm not terribly concerned about any dropoff to Goings. I just prefer having both of them.

    Hope Goings plays smart. No running out of bounds on 4th down (TB game), and turn to look for the ball in the flat (Dallas game), and seems like there was something in Sunday's game, but I can't remember what it was. Maybe it was just those negative gain plays.

    edit: maybe it was him missing a block on a lineman that might have led to a sack on Jake. Did that happen?

    :wtf23: Where's the picture of Foster from the last NFC championship game?

    He also chewed up KC really badly last year.

    BTW, what was his yardage pace for this year? 1700 yards if he'd started all 16 games?

    Sorry man, but you're way off base here.

    Coincidently, isn't that the same pace that Goings was on last year?

    KC was the 2nd worst defense in the league last season.

    Goings - 2004
    Games started = 8
    Rushes = 217 for 821 yrds.
    long = 57 Yrds
    3 for 20+

    6 feet tall, 225 lbs.

    ----------------------------

    Foster - 2005
    Games Started = 5
    Rushes = 205 for 879 yrds.
    long = 70 yrds
    3 for 20+

    6 feet tall, 222 lbs.

    ----------------------------

    They aren't all that different by rushing stats, sure Foster has one longer run (70 yrds) but no more 20+. Sure Foster has started 3 less games this regular season, and he did for all intense and purposes played as a starter at least 2 others, but also one of them was the huge Atl game (included in his stats). The carry amounts are not too different.

    However, I do think of all the games Foster started or played mostly, he had the luxury of playing with a superior O line and Offense/Defense as opposed to what Goings had during his games started in 04.

    Would I rather have Foster/healthy starting, yes for many reasons including depth.

    I am not at all surprised that Foster is seriously hurt again. I understand Davis' age and such and his knee, but Magnus is correct, this Offense eats up backs- that or we are just unlucky in that department.

    But I'm not panicky or depressed that Goings is our guy right now this week. I do fear the lack of depth as stated earlier. It is good Goings got to play a lot last season. He does well with his opportunities and he's a solid guy. Let's hope he continues to do so.

    Funny, that he appears smaller than Foster while out playing, but he's not.

    I'm hoping for some trash talk from seattle, as well as those guys underestimating Goings.

    I wonder after the last two weeks, if the homer media and the seattle players aren't keeping their traps shut for obvious reasons.

    Delhomme is gonna have to have another awesome game if we are too win this, but people underestimate goings, he is gonna do just fine, and if not, we just give it to Smitty on the reverse :ylsuper:
