Don't be a fanboy though. Look at both of them then make a choice. I've owned one Cyrix, two Intels, and two AMD chips. I go with whatever is the best value at the time.

The motherboard manufacturer has a lot more to do with stability than anything else. There are some crap manufacturers out there that take cost cutting shortcuts. MSI traditionally isn't one. The nForce4 chipset is based largely on the nForce3 250, which is an exceptional performer. And my experience iwth the A64 is that it runs cool (42 celcius) with my Thermaltake Silent Boost HS/F combo, at low decibels.

Intel has really dropped the ball with the P4 line. They've gone back to the drawing board now that they've admitted their mistake, and will be basing their new cpus on the mobile Pentium-M architecture which is some exceptionally good technology. I'll take another look at them when these come to market.

You are true to your name. :D

They do run hotter and are louder than a P4, but the flip side is better stability and performance. I had an AMD xp 3000 that beat the shit outta my P4 3.2. In any high stress gaming situations my P4 would get about 100 degrees it would shut down, I would run my AthlonXP at 127 degrees and it wouldn't miss a beat. Right now I have a AMD64 3800 that beats the hell out of the comparable P4 "extreme edition". I love my AMD. Intel is a good processor, but from what I've experienced, it’s not great like an AMD.

Aint gotta be makin it all personal now. Just a difference of opinion and preference.

To be perfectly honest, Ive grown so accustomed to Intel that I dont even know what the logic behind AMD's numbering is....xp3000, 3800....

what are the comparable models? Educate me if you're gonna blast me.

How was I trying to be a fanboy? Just stating that I was more comfortable using the Intel and that at the time, the Intel seemed more stable and that's what I've stuck with because it hasnt let me down one bit and I havent had a need to look elsewhere, really.

The truth is, pure clock speed is meaningless now. WHich is why Intel is renaming their processors to such as "735". That's not MHz. That's a model number.

AMD will be doing something similar soon.

But the bottom line is, in most application testing, the fastest Athlon64's are much better performers than the Intel counterparts. Plus they have forwards compatability with 64 bit code. Intel's chips don't. Makes the A64 look more attractive for an infrequent upgrader.

Didn't mean to insult you. Just saying you should consider all options. The fanboy mentality is not to.
