  1. of course it is Detroit..think I can come up with that shit myself? I got it in a newletter. The Rams are second with 9.

    1) Frank Sinkwich won the 1942 Heisman Trophy out of the Georgia Bulldog program. He played Back for the Lions from 1943 to 1944. He was in a Marine uniform when he accepted his Trophy. Sinkwich led the Lions in rushing and passing during the 1943 and 1944 seasons.

    2) Glenn Davis won the 1946 Heisman Trophy while he was at Army. The Detroit Lions selected Davis with their first selection in the NFL Draft following the 1946 season. Davis had a prior commitment with the U.S. Army and never played for the Lions.

    3) Doak Walker won the 1948 Heisman Trophy during his Southern Methodist collegiate tenure. He played back for the Lions from 1950-1955. Walker’s specialty was the scoreboard. He totaled 534 points, twice winning the NFL scoring title, and still ranks third on Detroit’s career scoreboard. In just six seasons he kicked enough extra points, 183, to place third on the team list.

    4) Leon Hart won the 1949 Heisman Trophy as a member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He played end for the Lions from 1950-1957. Hart was selected by the Detroit Lions in 1950. In 1951, he was voted All-Pro on offense and defense. In Hart's eight seasons with Detroit they won four divisional titles and three world championships.

    5) Howard "Hopalong" Cassady won the 1955 Heisman Trophy out of Ohio State. He played back for the Lions from 1956-1961 and 1963. Cassady was the teams' leader in both kickoff and punt returns in 1956 helping the Lions to a 9-3 record. His 30 points in 1959 led the Lions in scoring.

    6) Steve Owens won the 1969 Heisman and represents one of two Oklahoma Sooners trophy winners that have played for the Lions. He was a running back for the Lions from 1970-1975. He led the Lions in rushing and receiving during the 1971 season. Owens had 1,035 rushing yards and 350 receiving yards in 1971. He was the first Lion to eclipse the 1,000 rushing yards barrier in a season.

    7) Billy Sims won the 1978 Heisman Trophy and was from Oklahoma like Owens. Sims played running back for the Lions from 1980-1984 before a career ending knee injury. Currently he ranks second on Lions’ all-time rushing list with 5,106 yards with 1,131 attempts and 42 TD’s

    8) Barry Sanders won the Heisman Trophy in 1988 while at Oklahoma State. Sanders played running back for the Lions from 1989-1998. He is considered by many as the greatest running back in the history of the NFL. Sanders is the owner of nine all-time NFL records, he also has set virtually every Lions’ offensive rushing record conceivable. He gained 15,269 career rushing yards placing him third on the all-time NFL list.

    9) Andre Ware won the Heisman Trophy in 1989 where he compiled many offensive records at Houston. Ware played quarterback for the Lions from 1990-1993. Mainly used as a backup, Ware compiled 1,112 passing yards with five touchdowns.

    10) Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 as a quarterback at Brigham Young. He joined the Lions during the 2001 season and led them to the last victory ever in the Silverdome over Dallas, 15-10. He recorded 906 passing yards on 91 completions last season.

    11) Desmond Howard won the Heisman Trophy in 1991 as Michigan Wolverine. Howard has been with the Lions since the 1999 season and mainly operates as a kick return specialist. During his first game in a Lions uniform he returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown against the Redskins in a, 15-10, victory. He currently ranks second all-time on the franchise's career kickoff return list and seventh on the career punt return yards list.

    13) Gino Torretta won the Heisman Trophy in 1992 when he was with the Miami Hurricanes. Torretta had a brief stint with the Lions as a backup quarterback. He signed with the Lions in November, 1994. He was inactive as the Lions' designated third quarterback for the final seven regular season games and the playoff game at Green Bay. He was released the following September.
