He has the highest rating. I signed a rookie punter.

Did they give Baker a crappy rating?

Yes. And there's no special teams drills or practices (that I can find) to improve that rating. You don't have the opportunity to "coach up" the kickers and punters. I guess that's realistic, but it's frustrating. I mean really, how much do we think Fox spends coaching special teams?

Anyway, Malone's rating was just as bad as Baker's, so I signed another UDFA. He seems better so far, but I guess I won't know for sure until pre-season.

Weinke is pretty horrid, too, and I can't seem to give him enough reps or coaching to make him reach his potential. I'm hoping he'll retire after this year. LeFors isn't awful, but if Jake goes down, I'm screwed.

Hoover held out on me :wtf23: , so I ended up having to sign him to a 3-year extension to back up Goings. I think I'm going to end up regretting that decision.

My first pre-season game is next, so I'm looking forward to seeing what game play is like.

That's odd. Did SportsCenter catch Hoover in his driveway doing situps? Baker was solid last year, so I can't figure why they would give him a poor rating. They must have only seen the Seattle game.
Also odd that you can't coach up special teams.

Let us know how that preseason game goes down.

On an interesting side note, I managed to trade Eric Shelton to NE for Ben Watson. :trophy:

How far does the draft go in rounds? I just picked it up today. I have been playing Call of Duty 2 for the past 3 days

This game sucks all kinds of ass, which was really disappointing to me given how football-starved I am at the moment. I'm a big fan of management games like Baseball Mogul and Football(soccer) Manager, so I was hoping that EA would take advantage of its license to put something really fun together. Instead it's incredibly monotonous and absurdly limited. As hasbeen noted, you only get to do two things per office session, which is ridiculous. I can understand limiting the number of practice reps, but putting such strict controls on office time is a super annoyance, especially when you want to make significant changes to your depth chart (for instance, when I signed Anthony Simmons to play linebacker, I wanted to make Chris Draft the primary backup at all three LB positions, then adjust the other backups, etc).

Practice is ok, although I wish the playbook interface was better, and I was super disappointed that they didn't take better advantage of their relationship with ESPN. You get some Mel Kiper comments on the draft and some other stuff during the season, but it's really pretty minimal. I'm going to be pissed if we don't get much more than that for Madden. Anyway, the games themselves are allright, but the structure of the game encourages you to only focus on the few plays you were able to practice up to "money" level, and you can only call what you've added into your playbook. Navigating that thing to find what you want before the snap, especially considering that they have different folds for each down and distance, is pretty annoying.

On the positive side, the game takes place before the free agent period so I was able to bring back Witherspoon at a reasonable price and still sign some decent free agents (although the teams seemed to sign all their guys, so Kemoeatu and most others weren't even available). The biggest thrill for me was the draft, as I was able to get Vince Young in the first round, Laurence Maroney in the second, Nick Mangold with another second round pick I acquired, and then Devin Hester in the fourth round. Hester is listed at CB, but if you move him to WR he stands out right from the start as someone special since EA games have always made speed the best attribute for WRs. Unfortunately I've gotten so frustrated with the game that I haven't even played a full season to see how my rookies develop.

Basically, if you haven't bought the game yet, please don't. And if you insist on trying it, at least rent it first. I definitely wish I hadn't wasted $50 on this thing, and the worst part is that EA's licensing on this crap means that Football Mogul can't come out anymore.

I bought it yesterday. It has some fun parts, but it wore off pretty fast once I got past the draft (which was an odd draft, BTW). And yes, there are a lot a things, regarding GM and coaching duties, that EA left off. Can you even make a play for RFA's? Granted, I might have missed something, but that option doesn't apprear to be available. The office time is very constricted. I found that adjusting my schedule made it easier, but it still doesn't feel like enough time. The draft was pretty neat, although there are some head-scratching moves by the CPU teams. Chris Gocong as the fifth overall pick? It worked in my favor, because I was able to get Mario Williams, LenDale White, Nick Mangold, and Tye Hill within the first two rounds (I'm the Jets). It's also too easy to make trades, and some of the proposals from other GM are hilarious. The Niners wanted Jonathan Vilma for Kevan Barlow. Yeah........sure.

EA just wanted to make a little money during a dry part of the sports gaming season. Why else would they release an NFL game in June? The game makes a good first impression, but it's pretty boring after a day of playing.
