just as a quick overview it seems like everybody hosed themselves in this draft but AZ. Seattle's trade down, then reach, solved very little, and St. louis just plain reached and picked spots I wouldn't have called their biggest needs.

The Cards came out with the most solid DT of the group, and should have a good overall player there to team with what little they have along the line - Vanden Bosch being the only guy I think is worth anything - but between Bryant, Johnson, and Dwyer, they should develop a decent line. Fisher should be a playmaker for them as well, but he's like Mckinnon, they both need shielded. Hopefully Bryant can help in that regard.

McCown should be an asset as well.

SF didn't do bad, necessarily, but you hate to draft for depth and that's what they've done - Rumph will be a nickel, and Rasheed has to wait behind Winborn and Peterson. Then a kicker in the 4th? I dunno. I'll admit to not knowing Doman very well. So that's just a strange draft, full of potential ability but I don't know what of it will be put to the ground this year to help them get that extra push. Rumph definately will help against the Rams, yes, but you hate to make picks to combat one team.

They got probably the safest of all the DTs, not the greatest upside, but the most finished product. Stays low, is a penetrator and disruptor. They are like us though, lack talent up front, and I'm not sure they are there yet.

Fisher plays with a good base, they need that. They got my DT prospect Dwyer, Johnson fell to them which makes McCown look even better, and took a chance on Scobey, who I think will pan out.

    >>StL

Already said it, this draft just sucked. Top to bottom, they've got some projects with limited ability and a linebacker who they don't really need. Hope Crouch can play safety, they do need one.

    SF
1 27(27) MIKE RUMPH CB MIAMI (FLA.)

Hmmm, well, a hell of a nickle. This defense has solid starters. Not a whole lot of great playmakers, but solid.

3 4(69) from Buffalo SALEEM RASHEED LB ALABAMA
Best value pick. It's supplements their strength on defense, which is speed.

Gaines could be a decent player if he ever gets his shit together.

    Seattle

Another reach-a-thon. Just horrid. Stevens looks like a real problem child, and then Anton who. 1st round Edwards and then Stevens would have been better.

I never much understood getting Morris either. Sure, Watters isn't there, nor is Strong, but that doesn't mean you have to back up a 1st with a 2nd. Even still, the RB value was better in the 3rd.

For some reason I like Seattle's Jeff Kelly pick. He could be one of those "greatest steal ever" picks.

Az did rather well. Bryant should be a force in he middle, Fisher should be OK. Dywer is the wild card. If they can keep him away from the table they may have something there. McCown's showing at he All Star games and the combine may have pushed him into the top of the second tier QB's from this draft. Scobey may end up pushing Jones if he continues to struggle.

St Louis WTF? was all I could think of watching their picks. Thomas threw me off stride. To me the only decent pick they made was Gordon. Both Bellesari and Frost? Come on Martz what the Hell were you thinking?

Seattle never recovered from missing out on Graham. Stevens and Morris were really big reaches. The rest weren't much better.

San Francisco did pretty well IMHO. Rumph is a short term Nickle who will eventually start. Saleem gives them more speed at LB. Doman means the Gio experiment is done, The rest look like picks for depth.

Folks seem to think St. Louis sucked so far. Is that because of the impact Martz made or simply front office moves?

    the picks.

That's what this is about, you see. They call it 'draft analysis' for that purpose. :D

Bear, what do you think about Rasheed in SF?

I have to hand it to San Fransico. They've had some solid drafts.
