16 OF 32 TEAMS WON’T NEED TO MAKE ANY SIGNIFICANT QB MOVES –

    Atl – Vick / D. Johnson
    Buf – Bledsoe / Van Pelt {too many other needs to draft a project QB}
    Cle – Couch / Holcomb
*Den – Griese / Beuerlein (SB makes it 1 more year ‘cause he’s a tough SOB)
    Det – Harrington / McMahon
    Hou – Carr / Banks
    Ind – Manning / B. Huard
    KC – Green / Collins
    *Mia – Fiedler / Lucas
    NE – Brady / D. Huard
    NO – Brooks / Delhomme
    NYG – Collins / Palmer {see Buf note}
*Pit – Maddox / Stewart (Maddox will recover and flourish in that offense)
SD – Brees / Flutie (1 more year for Flutie just as a final FU to all his critics)
*SF – Garcia / Rattay (might pursue FA or a mid rounder)
StL – Warner / Bulger (Bulger will get the big extension, Warner restructures)

THE OTHER 16 HAVE GOT TO MAKE GETTING SOME QB HELP A PRIORITY -

?Ari – SCREWED if Plummer leaves / FA back up & McCown stays
    Bal – Redman / FA back up (next year Redman should be ready) {see Buf note}
    >Chi – rook Manning? / Miller stays as back up [Chandler retires]
    >Cin – rook Leftwich? / Kitna stays on as back up
?Dal – Culpepper or maybe Plummer / Huthinson & Carter stay
*GB – Favre / FA back up [Pederson retires]
*Jac – Brunell (gets another year or two)/ FA back up [Graham retires]
?Min – SCREWED if Culpepper leaves / FA back up & Bouman stays
NYJ – Pennington / FA back up [Testaverde retires, & dies of old age next year]
    >Oak – Gannon (last yr) / Tuiasasopo (TRADE UP to get a successor to OLD Gannon!)
Phi – McNabb / FA back up (might also draft a mid round McNabb wannabe)
Sea – Dilfer / Hasselbeck (after taking defensive picks they need a mid round QB)
*TB – B. Johnson / FA back up
Ten – McNair / FA back up [O’Donnell retires, & joins Vinnie in the sweet release of death]
*Was – Ramsey / Waffle (I bet Spurrier gets manic and drafts yet another sunshine state QB)
Car – Peete should and probably will retire but If Henning stays we should keep Peete on the payroll as a tutor (assistant QB coach?) for Fasani and the shmuck we draft. By signing either Blake or King we should be relatively okay for a year or two until one of the rooks develops enough to take over. I really wish Weinke sucked a little less so we could either use him or trade him.

*These teams that can afford to blow a mid to late round pick on a project QB (Jac and Was can’t really “afford” it but Coughlin and Spurrier are just too neurotic NOT to draft one of the 2003 QBs)

    > Teams that will be competing with Carolina to draft their QB of the future in the 1st round.

? For now we should probably assume that Ari Dal and Min will go with what they’ve got and not draft a QB before our second round pick next year.

Who will we get out of a dozen QB’s who might be available next year ---

Batch – Pit (someone will give him a shot, I hope it’s not us)
Blake – Bal (some of you see him doing well here)
Culpepper – Min (under contract but not happy, I smell a possible trade)
Detmer – Phi (NO, we’ll all see his suckage in weeks to come)
Ferotte- Cin (will anyone want Cincys 3rd stringer? maybe)
Husak – Min (?no info on him?)
    R. Johnson – TB (too FRAGILE, & he sucks!)
King – TB (might be a better fit here than Blake)
Plummer – Ari (Ari might HAVE to re-sign him for lack of a better option)
Matthews – Was (always thought he was decent, he’ll back up somewhere)
Wright – Dal (a Craig-type guy that will get a shot as back up somewhere)
Weinke – Car (Anyone think he would be worth trading for a 5th round pick?)

Originally I was thinking that 5 or 6 QB’s would be gone by the time we pick in the 2nd round. After analyzing the situation it actually looks like we will be able to wait until the 2nd round to land any number of promising rookie QBs. We could miss out on the top 2 or 3 prospects and still get an effective QB for the type of offense that Fox wants to run. I’m sure that there will still be at least a few 2003 QBs aside from Leftwich, Manning, and possibly Ragone who will be better than what we have right now.
Since it looks like we’ll be picking no lower than 5 or 6 I’m confident that we will get either WR Rogers or Johnson. In round 2 we take our QB of the future (Palmer, Grossman, whoever). Once we land a few free agents like QBs King or Blake, WRs Price or Coles, and a couple of O-linemen we can get back to some winning seasons.

yeah, I can see Cincy and Chicago both taking QBs. That would leave us with Ragone, and I'm not sure I'm down with that. Palmer's not the second or third best player in the nation, but it's traditional to have a QB who gets hot to slip up to where there's a need.
If it's Manning that's still there, I'd take him. I'm not sold on him, but he's got everything you'd want. If not Manning, I don't think Ragone will be top ten, but another QB will go along with him in the first, late. I do want to think it's Grossman because he's more talented than most give him credit for...he's much better than Matthews, Wuerffel, and the like. Decent QB put in a system that dooms you. I don't really want him here that badly, I put him 8th on my QBs list, but he's good and he'll probably shine in workouts.
I'd say four will be gone by our 2nd. We would still be able to get a guy like Boller, and if Dorsey has to start making tough throws again he'll start climbing toward our pick in the 2nd as well. No Simms, I know that damn much. I wouldn't pick him in the 4th.

I'd love to see Culpepper here.

I think it's funny that ya'll think Cincy and Chicago will be ahead of us in the draft.

I dont see us picking behind either. I dont see us winning another game this year. MAYBE Cincy.

I would take his ass in a second. Forget this season, Culpepper is a good one IMO. I would even consider giving up a #1 for him. He is that good.

I do think both them and Houston will be ahead of us.
Cincy and Chicago really do suck. Chicago might pull it up and win two games from here out, but they suck enough to deserve being ahead of us. I don't know why the sudden drop, but it happens.

    Yeah, butt:

    We have Tuten starting now.
We will lose Peppers to suspension
    The players hate Steve Smith.

I'm just waiting for someone to try to choke Del Rio.

Del Rio would beat on somebody that attacked him.
It took me a while to get over what Kevin Greene did, enough that I never really have liked him as a player since. But Kevin Steele was a pussy.

Yeah, true. We probably won't win another game. I guess if so, we're spotting each CIN and CHI wins, right?
