what about home games? can the home team dress how they want when they arrive?

and are you then suggesting that once you get on the team bus, you're on company time till you get back home? because of their public status, one could argue that these guys are always representing the nba. does that mean that the nba can tell them what to wear at all times?

I don't know about home games, haven't see all the info yet. But if they wanted to say you have to dress this way or that way once on work property then they could do so.

If you are on the team bus, I would say that is company time, imo. These guys are paid a salary not an hourly wage.

And NO, I don't think they should be able to tell these guys what to wear at their own house, going shopping or eating out.

    It's a silly answer to a non-existent problem.

not necessarily. if you ride a motorcycle, you show up in your riding gear, then you change. given that the first things these guys do when they get to work is change into their uniforms, doesn't it seem odd that they'd be asked to wear something specific for the walk from their car to the locker room and then from the locker room back to the car?

if they aren't going to be told what to wear while on a road trip and hanging at the hotel, eating dinner, or wandering around the town, then you're saying dress this way for the walk from the bus to the arena (where they promptly change into their uniforms).

the nba is different from most other sports because the teams are small and the players are very identifiable (no helmets or major gear). they play most of the game and are generally involved throughout the game. as such, the nba markets the game based on the players. the whole issue here is that they put the players out there for public consumption then fret over who they're putting out there.

they take "thugs" and put them on a pedestal and then tell them not look like thugs cuz they're on a friggin pedestal. how about not putting them there in the first place?

Pretty fucking hypocritical of Lakers coach Phil Jackson being behind the dress code. Isn't he a product of the free spirit 60 hippy culture who dressed to express their way of life or culture much like todays rap listening players? I don't understand their way of life but who am I to tell them to dress differently
