How so? He is using the resources he has in order to create a place where God is obviously one of the central themes and (I guess) help spread the Word. It's not that what he is doing is the same as a missionary, it is that people who believe that God has asked them to do something really do not care about the obstacles.

When I was a consultant, I worked on the effort to redesign Campus Crusade For Christ and got to meet and talk to a lot of these type folks.

I should have known Jeb Bush would show up somewhere in this article.

Honestly... if the Talebangelists of the world would just stop being brain-dead imbicles, I would stop making fun of them. Seriously.

if he wants to make a big private commune thing, then sure, go ahead. but as soon as it's a city with taxation and funding and public works, i think he runs into trouble.

and is florida's ag really named "crist"? and why hasn't anybody made a pun using his name yet?

Unless I'm mistaken, missionaries aren't looking to set up their own civil governments and communities. At least not in the 21st century. Historically they have, but not now. A base of operations maybe, but that's about the extent of it. Mission work is about serving the lost and evangelizing, not about establishing an 'island of righteousness' in a sea of decadence. At least it shouldn't be, IMO.

You are missing my point. I am not relating this with the work that missionaries do.

I am relating the commitment that people feel when they think God has given them a mission and the legths to which they will go to complete it.

.... Tighly drawn restrictive convenents on the houses and property will be civily enforcable as a contract. Commercial property controlled by the owner's lease agreement.

It might not be a town - but a gated like community with tightly controlled rules to be observed. ................
