i think a new coach is grounds for a full release... kind of dirty of state not to give it to him. yes he commited to the school, but he made his decision based on a particular coach, a particular playing style, and how he would fint into that coach's game plan. with a new coach, all of that changes. there should be a rule that gives kids a full release under circumstances like this.

There isn't. And the contract is clear about a coach leaving. As I said before it was his choice to sign a letter of intent. Also if he would have followed the rules of his conditional release he would have most likely been released with no problem.

i just don't think the kid should be penalized for the school changing coaches. if he doesn't want to play under the new coach, he shouldn't have to and he shouldn't be penalized for that. forcing him to wait several months to meet the new coach probably isn't going to change his mind.

I understand what you are saying but a contract is a contract. He wasn't forced to sign it.

No but he was a 17 year old kid and contracts aren't binding to anyone under the age of 18

If that's the case, why does he need State's permission?

Because of NCAA rules. The NCAA doesn't have to allow him to play unless he gets clearance from State.

If he was 17 when he signed the LOI then his parents have to co-sign it with him, so they are the legal signature in that case. I don't blame State at all for not releasing him. I for one am glad he chose Seton Hall, he's got a lot of baggage and will probably be in the news for other things other than basketball in the future. And the comments he made during the search were very negative, so good riddance, IMO.

The LOI has nothing to do with the NCAA, it is administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association which includes 54 conferences and 9 independents across the country.

I agree especially after hearing about him following a ref after a game and his uncle punching the ref in the face.
